Ok, I have been eyeing HDs for a while, longer than I care to admit without breaking down and getting one yet. I originally was eyeing a samsung dlp, but lately have been drawn to the sony kdf50e2000 50 incher, or maybe the 46 incher. It is a 720p tv, which is fine for me for now. I think it looks great anyway from what I have seen in the store. But most have only run dvds or other 480i sources to it. Is this a pretty good comparison to how they would look for my sd broadcasts? I use dish network. I would have some HD stuff, such as I would finally break down and get a xbox 360 I think. I do watch a lot of SD stuff, so was wondering how the SD would normally compare on this tv from anyone who has used it? My parents have a samsung plasma, and the SD on that, while not perfect, defintely still looks really good to me, some better than others, but some I am still like wow. I have heard some sony's do SD really bad, but was not sure. I have also been looking for the refresh rate on this TV, have not found it, but I have also been told for games and other fast stuff I should have no issue. This TV is also more in my price range, which is a plus. I am mostly going to be watching DVDs(movies and tv dvds), and play games, with a little of regular TV. Any feedback from any users as far as SD performance, HD performance(no store I have been in has HD run to this tv, that is usually reserved for a few sets which most of don't even impress me too much), and for gaming(right now it is a wii and a ps2, both of which would probably get a component cable upgrade and run through my reciever. Pioneer says hd component signal, such as the 360, can be sent through my reciever). Anything to help, especially from pratical experience, good or bad, is appreciated. I like to know these things in advance so I do nto regret a purchase later. Rather research it to death than jump in and be mad later.

I have a grand wega 42" and I just won the 46" in a contest and all I can say is that I LOVE these tvs. I've sold them to almost everyone in my family. The picture is great with everything. My xbox looks like a million bucks. Honestly I have nothing but good things to say about that tv. Good luck with it. If you were closer I'm selling my 46" for 1300 bucks but no way I'd ship it

if you can afford it, go with the 1080p version. Demo it out with some high def signals and you will not look back.... If you get the 720 version you might regret it a year or so from now...

I just bought the 46" s2010...love it...and it is 720p...it was on display next to the newer 1080p tvs that were all using the same 1080p source..

I honestly couldn't tell the difference..the Sony XBR2 or 3 had a little better picture but they were about $1000-1500 more..the 720p tvs are really selling fast though because they are selling them so cheap to move them..for me it wasn't worth spending another $500 or so on 1080p..I should also point out that I am usually the type of guy who buys more than he needs..

720p is good enough for me...I also bought a Denon upconverting DVD player as well..so now I can get my dvd's in 720p...

I don't want to say 1080p is overrated, but you have to consider what sources will actually output in 1080p...Blu-ray and HD-DVD..that's it..broadcast tv will probably never use 1080p because of the bandwidth..

My Xbox 360 games are all output in 720p or 1080i..as are most PS3 games, I think..

For me, getting a 46" tv at a little over $2000 was better than settling for a 40" 1080p tv that was about $2200 or so...

As fas as SD tv, you will notice a difference..a lot of SD cable stations suck, so you will just have to get used to it for now...You will REALLY notice how bad SD is after immediately watching a HD channel..:(

I'm also not sure you will notice the difference between 1080p and 720p on tv sets under 50"..but then again...maybe I'm wrong..but if I am wrong, I won't have a 1080p tv next to mine to compare so it won't matter:D

I agree with you krabby and I see them everyday. We have an xbr2 1080p floor model beside a th42px60 720p and the panny looked better so we moved the xbr LOL and the xbr was 2300 more

the th42px60 is a plasma and the xbr2 is a lcd. Yes, plasmas have a very different look and most have much better black levels. Not an apples to apples comparison. If the step up to the lcd 1080p is not worth it to you, then go for the 720p. For me there was just too much of a difference.

exactly...another thing to consider is the fact that if you do get a newer model with 1080p, the overall technology is probably better than the previous years..and all newer LCDs will have 1080p anyways, so if you want the newest models, you will have to get 1080p..

That is the one thing that I was thinking about, moreso than the 1080p vs 720p debate...to get 3 HDMI inputs, better contrast ratio, lower refresh rate, etc. you will have to get the latest model, which will all be 1080p..

there is no right answer for you...:)

if you look at last years line up and this years line up of sony and panasonic they are actually the same stuff with different chassis. the panasonic plasma actually has less options than the previous year

Ok, out of anyone who has this TV, anyone notice any gaming lag, ghosting, etc? My local CC has the 46" on sale for 1099, which seems like a good price, so I am considering it, just wanted to check those areas, because I do game a lot.

I love my wega and have noticed NO ill effects with any source I have used. I love playing xbox on it. The only drawback is I wish I would have gotten the 50"

Yeah, I am a little leary of going 46 and wishing for the 50 later, bt I think the 50 may just be too big for my room. My room is not really big. My parents have a 50 plasma, and it is huge looking, even in their room they keep it in is bigger than the rooms in my place. I think part of it is the way it is made, but still, that thing is a monster, but oh so beautiful. As I said before, I have no HD stuff. If i get a tv, I will probably get a 360, and then component cables for my wii and ps2.

Yeah I saw that. I still think I will go with the reg premium edition. The main appeal the elite has is the way bigger harddrive. I would probably go with the premium and spend the extra money saved on a good game. I have only played dead rsing and battlefield 2 on the 360 at friend's places, but I liked them both.

Although I was originally looking at plasmas, and I'll probably still go that route, I've been looking at these Grand Wegas myself, particularly the kdf46e2000. It's cheaper for one, I can get one shipped for a little over a grand and it's 4" larger than the plasmas I've been considering. 50" would be a little too large and I'm afraid 42" would be a tad low. I think 46" would be about perfect. The only hesitation I have is because of all the talk about fast motion artifacts. I plan on watching a lot of football, as in NFL Sunday Ticket and maybe College GameDay. If I could be certain this wouldn't be an issue I'd probably grab one.

I have the 46" S2010 and I don't even know what people are talking about when they say LCD's have ghosting or lag...everything looks great to me..

but then again, ignorance is bliss:D

So Jim, do you think we'll see any of these last year models coming down anymore or do you think this is about it? How long are these usually still available after the new models appear? Right now you can get the 46" Grand Wega for around $1018 shipped, the Samsung 4253 Plasma for $1100 shipped and the Panasonics are still up there at a couple hundred more than the Samsung unless you get an open box, and some of those don't come with warranties. I just missed one by a second this morning for $1100 with full warranty.
