Oddly enough the same closed mindedness extends to the older ilk who claim there hasn't been a good record released in the last 30 years.

I don't recall anyone here having that point of view. The post you quoted by George was a reference to my post that covered at least 65 years of vocalists. Many of the younger generation MAY have heard some of the classic artists, but chances are greater that they haven't. Most wouldn't even recognize the names. I believe what Ggeorge was referring to had more to do with a frame of reference. People like George and myself have been buying and listening to music longer than most of you have been alive. We were around during a time when we actually heard music on the radio (instead of talk, shock jock and political BS). Because of that we have a greater range of information to formulate an opinion. Doesn't necessarily mean we are right, we just have a greater base to choose from. Saying Stevie Nicks is the greatest female singer one has ever heard is different from saying Stevie Nicks is the greatest female recording artist of all time if you haven't heard Bessie Smith, Patsy Cline, Sarah Vaughan or Rosemary Clooney.

A couple of my favorite recordings are less than a year old....a couple predate me (and that is a long time ago).

You are correct...good music/vocalists/recordings/performances span all ages. One needs to hear as many of them as possible.

Oh yeah, for the best rock vocals, I'd add to Roger Daltry & Paul Rodgers, Ronnie Van Zandt of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd. Dude was smokin'!

You guys are just older. That doesn't mean you have a greater range of information to formulate your opinion since all of that music is still available to anyone now at any age. All it just means you've been able to listen to music longer than someone younger.

Fortunately for all music fans we didn't need to be born in the 1950s to still appreciate an album that came from the 1950s.

The point that there's nothing good these days has been made numerous times on this board by people posting in this very thread, but you're right that it wasn't said in this one. So I'm sorry that I was wrong on that one.

It's one thing to bash people's opinions on things that actually have a real world value, but this -- this is utterly meaningless. If you're fine pumping your ears full of Nickleback (for example), knock yourself out and I'll keep my opinions to myself until someone tries to claim they're the greatest band on earth.

Demi, you're right. I forgot the one band I found engaging from 1980 to the present. David Hidalgo from Los Lobos has a very good voice.

You should give Los Lonely Boys an audition. David Hildago was one of the few who came to mind the first time I heard them. Don't get me wrong, they are still thier own sound but they have this sound that's alot like a cross between Los Lobos multi-part harmonies and Stevie Ray Vaughn's bluesy, guitar-heavy sound. You might like them, you might not but they are worth a try. If you want, let me know and I'll bring my copy of thier first album over along with my Shoebox Full of Blues.

    Sona,

You have some good suggestions there.

Out of curiosity....Have you ever seen Schuyler Fisk live? My wife and I saw her last weekend along with Joshua Radin. She has one of the best live voices I have ever heard. I've also seen Maria Taylor a couple times (once solo, once w/ Azure Ray), and would have to say that Schuyler has her beat.

That visit is a touch overdue John. My stereo room is a disaster area. Having new Andersens installed. There might be a June small meeting of some minds, and I'll give you a heads-up if it's going to happen. Royalty may be dropping by. Don't be surprised if I don't like LLB's. I rarely like anything that I don't like.
