For those who think there's a wealth of info on RTA 12's your are better than me. The B and C look really alike from the pictures I could find. B's were 8 ohm and C's were 4 ohm. What tweeters did the have? What drivers did they use?

    Just curious,

You are asking about a 28+ year old speaker. What's on your mind? We can only fill in the blanks.

There is a wealth of information here at Club Polk but it's up to you if you want to wait for a few replies or do some leg work on your own. Most info is easily found but some requires digging. Search is your friend. Bookmark is your friend.

A regular search for "RTA" comes up empty. Search needs a minimum of four characters but there are ways around this to find what you are looking for. Use Advanced Search and narrow the search to the related forum. For older speakers like RTA's search first in Vintage, Club Polk Archives, Speakers, then the whole forum. A search for "RTA*", "RTA12", "RTA12A", "RTA12B", "RTA12C", "RTAS" bring results.

The model 12/RTA 12 have been through many changes. They came with green or tan circuit boards and brass or tin fuse holders. With and without stands.

There is a bi-amp option in the schematics thread.

    RTA 12c manual

I have a pair of RTA 12's with Peerless tweeters and they are definite keepers.

RTA 12 (Peerless), RTA 12 (Peerless)
RTA 12A (Polk Audio sl1000), RTA 12A (Peerless)
    RTA12B (Polk Audio sl1000), RTA 12C (Polk Audio sl2000)

Wear a diaper, you will like them. RTA 12s quickly made my not for sale list so my opinion is biased. At $150 though you will not lose money. I found a sweet wide sound stage at 6' apart and 4" from the wall with the chair 8' between tweeters.

I picked up the RTA 12B's. In very good condition. It has the SL1000 tweeter. Can you put SL2000's in their place? What would the sound difference be?

    Thanks for the help,

The tweeters on that series aren't the best indicator of what they actually are. The crossover PCB is the best location for identification.

Polk65 hits on that really well above, missed that on the first pass.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Keep them. They are a perfect match for your 3.1TL's up front.
    Excellent price.
    Enjoy
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

It's usualy printed on the PCB and/or has a small sticker somewhere on it with a date. Like I said, as did Polk65, this series was on drugs.

Just be happy you know what speaker it is. If it has the Peerless, cool....SL1000, pass....SL2000, awesome, since you have the ability to replace it.
