With my current setup I have a Pioneer Elite VSX 26TX and it is running a CS 400i, RT 600I(Mains) and RT35I(Surround). I want to get a new receiver that will HDMI in/out and have looked at the Onkyo TX-SR605 to replace the Pioneer. The SR605's will only put out 90 Watts per channel. Will that be enough to run my set up. The room is about 15x20. I was looking at getting another Elite but the price is not economical right now with the purchase of a new Plasma and stand.
Any recommendations on a receiver to grab that will decode TruHD and have 1.3 HDMI???

I'd go with another Pioneer Elite, or a Denon, or an HK. I think the onk would be a little down grade in sound quality, not that Onkyo is bad, I just think the other three would be more on par with your

Do you have any recommendations under the $800 range? -
I personally believe you can find some bargains in Denon or HK through
ebay or other sites that sell open box/refurbished. You can save hundreds of dollars and generally get items that were purchased and returned. I heard good and bad things about specific retailers so check them out. I plan on buying a Denon 85watt AVR with preouts for about $300 soon myself.
They offer all ranges at serious discounts. Good luck!

Hello jdelan,
As it stands right now only a copmany by the name of Sherwood makes an HDMI 1.3 receiver with both TrueHD and DTS MA support. Denon should be the first of the big names to market with the 28** and 38** series receiver's supporting both new high definition surround formats, Yamaha will be out shortly after with Pioneer right around the corner as well. $999 is said to be the starting price point of the new format receivers.
If you require HD in/out's I'd be skeptical with company's that have built their reputation on sound alone, including the likes of NAD, Rotel and HK...when HDMI is applied it is usually a switcher and not a repeater therefore you can't process any audio information through the HDMI input or convert and scale signals within the receiver. This might be important to you if you use lower resolution sources such as DVD, Digital cable etc. -
Thanks for the input. I think I will just buy the Toshiba XA2 instead of buying a new receiver. I have an Open HDMI port on the TV and can use the Analog out from the HD-DVD Player to the Receiver. I will buy a receiver once they iron out all the specifics.
