I was going to buy a plate amp and mount it in a remote box but I am thinking about going with an actual stand alone type amp. Can anyone recommend a good sub amp. I'd like one with a volume control.

I'm pretty pleased with the plate amp I just picked up from rythmikaudio. 350w @ 4ohms, selectable rumble filter 14, 20 & 28hz, selectable damping, crossover/phase/gain, yada yada. The benefit IMO is that it will protect the driver from overexcursion though if you're careful a stand alone amp will be fine too.

That looks nice. If I go with a plate amp I think it will get the nod.

I'm using an Adcom GFA-555 bridged for 850watts at 4ohms lots of headroom, and high dampening factor. My box is going to be a SonoTube with a Dayton 15" Titanic driver. It handles 800 watts, but I was thinking about Using a 2 channel amp. You could use one for the center, and one for the sub. 555's can be had for $350, and put out 325@4 ohms, and 200@8.
    Happy hunting
    Ben
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I like stand alone amplifiers with home subwoofers. Not only can you trade drivers or boxes in and out as you please, but who doesn't like to add another amp to their stack of electrical bliss. If you have a really amplifier, you should show it off. It's sad to see good amps tucked away from prying eyes. :(
Try Dayton Audio's HPSA1000-R because it is specifically made for subs. It rates a 1000w RMS at 4 ohms and is on sale right now for $350 at PE. It's a hard amp to beat for what you get.

    • Measured power output: 512 watts RMS into 8 ohms @ 0.09% THD, 1,024 watts RMS into 4 ohms @ 0.15% THD • Signal to noise ratio: 98 dB (A-weighted) • Parametric EQ: Frequency: 18-80 Hz, Level: -14.5 to +6 dB, Bandwidth: .1-1 • Low pass crossover: 30-200 Hz • Phase: 0-180°

I'd like to hear one of Brian's servo kits...supposed to be special from what I hear from the DIYers.
