Any opinions about this reciever, I am looking for a new reciever and this was on sale at out local PX. I have always looked at JVC to be lower end equipment is that still true. Also this has no HDMI hookups is this much of a detraction.

I will be using the following equipment with it. RTi150s for fronts, RT400i for center, and RT 1000i as surrounds. with 60" HD Hitachi.

Thanks for any input.

if you have to purchase it at the PX, do they offer any other brands? Personally, i'd look at other brands... names with the likes of Denon, Onkyo, Marantz, even maybe Pioneer. or Outlaw Audio 1070, even a NAD T763 would be step up from most of those other ones.

for the price of that JVC, i'm thinking you can do better.. IMHO

Wow...that certainly doesn't look like your average JVC receiver. It might just surprise some of us! It looks like you can get it for the same price online but a couple listed it as out of stock. For that much cash you'll be able to find several nice options I'm sure.

Since youre buying from the PX have them get you a Denon, Yamaha, or Sony. If they are not on the shelf pick a model youre interested in and do a special order. I know being on the base you can get sweet prices on gear. They had the JVC DLA HD1 for 4500 after I did a follow up today out here in Japan. So check with the reorder associate there, you should go with something that at least has HDMI. Somewhat future proof without knowing what kind of tv you currently have, plan to have.

thanks for the reply's guys I forgot about the special order at the PX. What I have now is the Yamaha 995. THe catalog is also showing the new Pioneer 2016 but I have not been able to find a review on it, Its seems to be quite a system and cheap (limited funds medical retirment) I'll post the info on it.

I would love toget any of the recievers you have mentioned but the cost get me where it counts.

If I can't improve on what I have I will probly stay with it, but with all the changes that are going on with recievers and TV'sI am thinking of upgrading the 995 doesn't have RGB so I have gone straight from my HD satellite unit to my TV and routed the sound to the reciever.

if you have pre amp outputs on your Yamaha 955, you may just want to add a external amp.. that may just do the job for you. look into an Adcom 2 channel amp.

For the money the JVC will cost, you could go with an upper end unit like a Rotel AVR or a NAD.

Yeah, I bet that JVC is nice but a lot of the cost goes into a lot of expensive features you don't really need.

If you are looking to get a Pioneer, you should look at the Elite's..
Pioneer Elite VSX-53, Polk RT800i fronts, Polk CS400i center, FX500i surround, Velodyne sub

Those NAds are awesome. Pioneer Elite would be nice. Not sure how much you want to spend but you cant go wrong with the suggestions made. You can get an AVR with the features you want/need, make sure you have preouts, then just beef up the power later with external power amplification. Its been said already, but concurring with others, you cant go wrong there. Good luck brother.

I am trying to understand how to add power to my unit. I Pre amp outputs, how should I go when you talk about adding an amp are you talking like any amp and is this to just power the fronts, I have heard you talking about this and I was thinking about this because of the RTi150's who need more power. Should I be looking for a Yamaha unit to match with the sound of my Yamaha that I already have?

I was also looking at a new amp to cover the neaads of the modern TV, DVD.s and such, My Yamaha doesn't even have the component outputs.

Forget Yami. The resale should tell ya something. I had one. Didn't like it. Bought an HK AVR245 and never looked back! HK or Denon with pre outs. If you plan to get an amp you can use the l/r channels of the reciever for the highs. 65 watts reciever for highs, and 200 watt amp is good for lows. Or 100/300.

    Edit
For the price you were looking at for a reciever you could get a new Outlaw Audio PrePro, and a nice Used Adcom 5 Channel amp:cool:
