I did a comparison between these 2 amps today. I had the 585 hooked up for quite a while, and was loving it. I hooked up my 5800 today, and I thought that the 5800 was putting out some noise at a certain frequency. They both are very close to each other. Which is perfect for the project I have lined up for them. The noise I heard was a resonate frequency noise coming from one of the wall vents. The 5800 just puts out just a little more than the 585 which had caused the vibration in the vent. Its kinda hard to find the noise when playing at Peaks of 119db. Previously I was reaching 117db from the 585 c weighted at 1 meter slow response. I guess thats what the 11lb difference is between the two amps. The dampening factor for the 585 is >600, and the 5800 is >1100. Seeing that they are rated the same power wise I am assuming that the dampening factor is substantial in SPL level output. Oh Yeah SDA-SRS

Damping has nothing to do with SPL but rather how much ringing a speaker will have. All other things equal, a higher damping factor amp will be quieter with less distortion than one with a low damping factor.

Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin
