ok polk audio has been around since before i was born and so im learning more and more about this awesome company that i have invested so much money into. but i asked someone one time if polk audio had ever gone into producing pro-audio speakers or equipment and i was told that they origionally did in the 70's if this is true where can i find there speakers or atleast see a picture of them because it seems like they are no where to be found. i've searched e-bay and other sites but i have come up with no results. if any one cane at least give me a starting point on where to look that would be appreciated

you might be mistaking polk for pyle driver(s) they used to make some awesome 6x9 car speakers, and they dipped into making some car amps and some commercial speakers. there was a plant in huntington ind not to far from here.

Apparently, M. Polk broke into the audio biz by designing speaker systems for conventions and festivals, but all custom work.

Actually the first ever polk speaker was the polkA. This speaker spawned a dance craze and dancehalls around the world! In fact there are polka festivals all over the world.

Well okay...you figured it out...it was actually the POLKa.

Speakers, Then Matt built the "Monitor Series" when he first started building Speakers in the Seventies.

I have an Original Pair of Polk Monitor 10s That I purchased from Soundscape (the only authorized Polk Dealer in Baltimore at the time) in 1978.

Each Box consists of: (2) 6 1/2" Mid/Bass Drivers (loaded Horizontally), a 10" Passive Radiator, and a 1" Peerless Tweeter.

Bout 90db @1W/Meter, excellent crossovers, and built like a Tank!

I listen to these quite often, and they STILL compare favorably well to anything in its price range ($265 each, 1978 $) to this day!

IMHO, These Speaks were (and are) Matt at his very Best, competing with the Better Known Brands of Yesterday and Today...... AND WINNING!

Ray - Altec and 10Bs, with tubes. Man I'm jealous. I too own 10Bs, altec and Dynaco, but my Altecs and Dynacoes aren't the same.

It was the monitor 10 that brought my attention to Polk Audio also. Never heard something sound so sweet before.

I was blown away the first time I heard them 2. Had to saved up for 2 years at a minimum wage job to finally get them. Sell em? Nah!
