I'm sure you guys are on other forums that discuss this, but just in case be aware of the 2.1 firmware update if you are using a HDMI--->DVI connection in your setup. Seems allot of owners are no longer getting any picture via this connection after running the update. If you are using HDMI to HDMI go for it, I ran it and noticed slightly faster load times, better LFE over HDMI, and a little better PQ but that could be my imagination. You can find my post here that will give you the link to the thread on AVS. Enjoy

Now, does this mean having DVI anywhere in the loop or does this mean for instance, HDMI out of the player and DVI into your display. The reason I ask is I'm using HDMI to HDMI w/DVI adapters at my Outlaw 990 for video switching but it goes into my projector as HDMI. I hope this made atleast some since.

Well Grim, there has been some reporting that they had no problem with DVI in the loop, but some people have. Especially when running into AVRs or at the Display itself. I would seriously wait, unless youre one to take risks. If youre running 2.0 and its been working for you, dont bother. Supposedly the black crush is fixed though, I forgot to mention that also

You can fix a black crush? I thought once you went black, you could never go back?!?

I'll have to see what version my HD-XA1 has running right now. I just got it yesterday.

For audio, do you guys go with Bitstream or PCM? I forget which is better. I am probably going to run 5.1 analog out to my 635 for most content.

    Hello,

From what I hear you can revert back to 2.0. You can always try upgrade, if it doesn't work or makes things worse just go back.

    Andy-

Use PCM. That will give you the best audio out of the player since you want the player to process all the audio to receive TrueHD via PCM to your receiver.

    Hi Mike,

You mean if your watching HD-DVD movie thru 5.1 analog out, the audio setup for SPDIF on the XA1 player would be PCM so it can decode Dolby TrueHD? How about DD+, should it be the same?

Other forum I've read, they recommending BITSTREAM for SPDIF and AUTO for HDMI.

You should use PCM over the HDMI connection for the best possible audio. It has been confirmed that if you have problems with 2.1 you can revert back to 2.0 so you can give it a shot and not worry about it. This has been confirmed by others on AVS as well.

You will not be able to receive lossless TrueHD via SPDIF. The only way to achieve this is LCPM via 5.1 analog outs or HDMI.
