I have been waiting for HDMI 1.3 to come out before I purchase a pre/pro for my 7.1 HT. I saw that Sherwood is coming out w/one sometime in the next couple months.
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-12760_7-9676526-5.html
I read that this processor will be 100 wpc x 7 @ 8ohms.
If I were to purchase a sherwood A-965 amp to go with it, will this be enough power to push the 7 LSIs?? Or would it be better to go w/another brand amplifier like the outlaw 7700 w/200 wpc @ 8ohms, 300 @ 4ohms.
I was set on an Outlaw 990/7700 combo but decided I need the HDMI. I can wait a couple more months, I just dont think I can wait until Outlaw comes out w/it.... How does Sherwood Newcastle compare to Outlaw?? What would you do?? Thanks

I dont know why everyones so horny for hdmi the video signal isnt any better than componant video2 CHANNEL
Speaker - Klipsch Heresy II

I think you would be better off with 7 of these, instead of the 7700 if you have the room in your rack.

I concur with Jim an mazer.

While Outlaw's monoblocks are good. I would get a 7700 just for the convenience factor. 1 box & 1 outlet.
From what I have heard from others, the 7700 sounds better than the mono's.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
And the 7700 is built like a tank. I haven't heard the monoblocks but I sure can vouch for the 7700.Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!

Outlaw mono-blocks have had good reviews. You just need to search on yahoo for reviews of their mono-blocks. The are about 2" tall and weight a good amount. They have a huge pancake style transformer. The newer 2200 has balanced inputs.

HDMI will be very important once studios start implementing HDCP. If you don't have an HDMI connection, you will not be able to play the video at 1080P. Some claim that you would be limited to 480P without HDMI and HDCP enables over other connections. That's why it's important.
If Sherwood is coming out with it (HDMI compliant receiver), Outlaw Audio will be following about 2-3 months later with their own. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. I agree, I had 5 M200's at one time, while good, I think that its class G switching can be a disadvantage. I would go 7700 or another amp altogether for best performance.

I think ill stay w/the 7700, but how about the sherwood A-965 amp?? I believe it is less watts tho... Also, with the sherwood reciever already pushing 100wpc @ 8ohms how does this integrate with the wattage of the amplifier?? Or does it??
-
It doesn't. You can try biamping them, but I'd suggest against it as the amp and the receiver may have different gains and it would be difficult to balance tweeter vs. woofer forthat many channels.. There isn't any good/safe way to add the 100W from your receiver to your amp..There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. I think you should get this for an amp: Sunfire TGA 7400.
And sell your pre/pro you have right now and get this instead: Denon 5805CI or Anthem Statement D2 -
What are your other speakers? I really like the sound of HK receivers. Many of them have pre outs. I personally like the Adcom amps. You just can't beat the bang for the buck factor. For $400 you can get used Adcom GFA-555's all day long on Ebay/audiogon(325 watts at 4 ohms). You can use a 2 channel high quality amp for your LSI7's, and the receiver for the rest of the channels.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I dont have any receivers/amp yet. I have had these speakers since December while I finish the construction on the theater. Im getting to the point of purchasing the pre/pro and amp... I need to make a decision soon and would rather buy new... -
With the LSi's, I would personally reccommend against HK amplification. Something about it veils the LSi's sound. HK kicks butt on the RTi series, but fall flat on the LSi's IMHO.
The best non-tube match I've found are Adcom amps. I'd love to try some parasound as well. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. I'm running my LSI15s and LSIC off my Parasound Halo A52, they're absolutely fantastic. The level of detail is specifically evident in analog stereo where I just feel I'm getting a personal concert in my living room (and that's with CDs only, not even talking about SACDs)
Since the LSI series loves power, you'd be short changing yourself by driving them with anything less than 200 watts/ch or even running them with a receiver. I got my Halo off Audiogon for a great price, but I keep hearing awesome things about Carver amps and Outlaws (B stock will get you some sweet deals).Analog:

Alright, im going to wait for the sherwood and get the Outlaw 7700. In the meantime I want to purchase cables as well to try to spread out the financial hit as much as possible. From what I saw on the pix of the Sherwood R-972 (http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-12760_7-9676526-5.html) doesn't have balanced inputs. Would I be better off getting the Outlaw 7200 if this is the case?
Ill also need some help figuring out what cables I need. Im thinking about purchasing from Blue Jeans beacause they seem to be cheaper and everyone here raves about them. I have never setup anything like this so if I miss something pls let me know.

I think the Blue Jeans or Signal Cables would be a decent enough match for your equipment connects, the lsi speakers can handle better cables, I would suggest MIT shotgun series for your fronts, although they are a bit pricey.

Nobody actually pays that for MIT Cat. They sound much nicer than either BJ or Signal given the gear to get to the differences.

Sorry Ted, even if the prices were cut in half, it still wouldn't be worth it for me.

Just realized these are probably not what I need to connect the amp to the Receiver. What do I use to connect between the two? -
You can run a multi channel cable you buy from BJ. You run from the pre-outs on your receiver to the rca inputs on your amp. Then you run your speaker cables from the amp to the speakers.
I have used a BJ cable from my receiver to amp for years for my HT, works great.

Sorry Cathy, I dont think you mean this to say I dont have common sense since I personally use MIT Shotgun connects, but it reads this way in your post.
I thnk you mean you do not wish to spend that much money on wire.

No Ted I wasn't trying to say you don't have common sense, sorry. But I would be crazy to spend that kind of money 1. I don't have it, & 2. The wire would be worth more than the bulk of my whole system!:eek:reeltrouble1 wrote: »Sorry Cathy, I dont think you mean this to say I dont have common sense since I personally use MIT Shotgun connects, but it reads this way in your post.

Get a decent DVD player that up converts to 780p and 1080i. It only is output on HDMI. And the picture is obviously and definitely better than a standard picture.
