I recently purchased the monitor 60s speakers and i am not getting the results i expected. I recently had the r30s up front and thought i would hear a big diffrence in the overall sound stage. My feeling is its time to get a new receiver, and that my current yamaha just is not powerful enough to drive them effeceintly. The two receivers i am currently looking at are denon 787 and pioneer vsx 1016 any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

current reciever yamaha 5740

    HK or Denon
You can get refurbs on Ebay real cheap.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

I just went with a new Denon 887 and even though a lot of it is over my head right now the people here were right, the sound is noticeably better compared to my Onkyo.

If you go with Denon "word has it here" that the "big" refurb company on E-Bay (dakmart) has the "customer support from hell". If you check the Denon site you can get a list of authorized dealers. (Click on warranty at the bottom of the page, put in your zip code, and then click on "View Authorized Online Dealers".)

Word also has it here that secondact.biz it a good dealer to buy refurbs from.

Keep in mind that refurbs are only warranted for 90 days and new ones have a warranty of 2 years. For it to have a warranty it must be bought from an authorized dealer because of serial number tampering.

I have never had a HK but I have had an Onkyo and replaced it with the Denon 5700; and that has been in constant use since I purchased it new. I have been extremely satisfied with the operation of the Denon. At the time I purchased the Denon I had researched it thoroughly and was satisfied that it's build was better than similar products from other names we all recognize. I did not want to get into separates at that time as I was unfamiliar with the market, used equipment and my budget wouldn't allow.
I can highly recommend the Denon that I have and I have looked for the 5700 in the used market and I don't see it being offered FWIW.

I think that Yamahas are a little bright for the Monitor 60s, just to confuse you further I'd offer http://us.marantz.com/Products/1867.asp# same price point, and I think it gets the best out of the Mon 60s.
