System Change - Bass Question!

I have made some changes to my system- Alpine PDX 4.150 in and rear DB6500 changed out to MMC6500's. I was wondering what I should look at as far as a good balance of LOW to MID bass assignments. I am sending everything below 65 to the sub with a -18 roll off, and the mids stop at 65 with a -12 roll off. I have been playing around and have not been able to get a feel for whats a good point. I have been working everything with flat EQ and no time adjustments. I am about 15 hours into break in on the SR's and 4 Into the MMC's.

Play around with the x-over slopes and frequencies. Try the same slopes for both, and don't be afraid to go up to 80Hz as well. I would tune it with the time alignment the way you are going to have it. You may also want to attenuate the rear speakers a good bit. Give tuning your system with just the front speakers, and the sub playing a shot. Then add the rear speakers in , but just for rear fill.Alpine: CDA-7949

Yea, I get a boomy response at 80, but thought I was doing the mids a favor shifting that area on down to the subs. I have been playing with 63HZ as a cutoff, and -12 on both sides. I am waiting to get a little more time on the speaks before timing them. Right now just flat with lots of volume to break in. The sound quality is phenomenal, as you know the sound stage can take time to tune. I at least have a lot of control with the HU. I have learned a lot on the forum. I am working on rerouting and taping down the cabling now under the carpets. I am suspecting that I will probably always be fiddling with the EQ due to the various quality of the recordings themselves. I have heard some sounds from the SR's that I have never heard on songs before. The sound quality change from the old DB6500's to the new MMC6500 is interesting, quite a bit tighter.Pioneer Premier DEH -7800MP

I would also think that you get a little more forgiving tweeter as well with the Momo's.
Have you tried the 80Hz setting with a higher slope? I am not sure how high you can go with the slope with your Pioneer unit though. You can also tweak the EQ to fine tune your sound a little further.
I hear what you are saying about the fiddling with the EQ. I listen to a pretty wide selection of music, and the ability to have a few preset EQ curves set by me is very nice. I usually add a little oomph to the lower notes on the older recordings.Alpine: CDA-7949
