upgrading
Hi all,
I am looking to make some upgrades to my setup. I would really like bigger front speakers and maybe a bigger sub. I would move my rt55is to my surronds. I would like to know what I would need to do to be able to handle
RTi10, Rti12 or the Lsi15, I am not sure what to get. Should I get a new reciver or an amp or just get the rti10 speakers. I am looking to upgrade slowly. I didn't know what to buy first and what to buy and the model to get. Please let me know what you think. Total budget around $2500 or so over the next 6 months.
I currently have the csi5 as my center, rt55i as my mains, rt25i as my surrounds.
I have PSW350 as my sub.
I have a Onkyo TX-SR803 as my receiver which is hooked to a home theater pc I built.
I do not have a separate amp and I am not bi-wiring.
I have a sharp 32' lcd.

Wzitter,
Nice receiver and center channel speaker. I think you have done great there.
My first recommendation would be a nice powerful amp. I make that recommendation because no matter what upgrade direction you decide to go, you will eventually need an amp to get the most out of your system. Plus a nice amp can stay with you a while and is not something you have to upgrade all the time. With an amp you will not have to worry about such things as whether you have enough power to push those 4 ohm speakers or whether you have enough power to hear 7.1 without any strain.
As far as front upgrades with Polk, I think you have some good choices there. You should if possible listen to the differences in the RTi and LSi series. They have a different presentation (i.e., one sounds like it will blow you away with sound while the other sounds like it would rather draw you into the sound). Find out which you like.
Finally, I would replace that sub with something that will rock your boat. There are a lot of good choices of nicer subs out there such as SVS, HSU, and velodyne.
Now as far as waiting for the RTia's to come out, that is a matter of whether you will get lucky and find some old style RTi's on clearance sales. The look of the RTi line has changed somewhat, but I bet the sound is going to be very close still.
I know...not much help besides the amp, but I was in a talkative mood.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

There are a lot of good amps out there Wzitter. You can tell what I have in my signature but do a search on the electronics section of this forum and you will come up with lots of recommendations.
Plus if you get lucky, you may catch one for sale in the flea market of this forum by a respected member. It was just about a week ago that there were several for sale.
Good luck in your search.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

I haven't heard the RT55is, but have heard the praises here for a couple of years. I think that the sub upgrade will give you the most immediate upgrade for the $s now, amp next. You've got an excellent setup with a weak sub. Try, as has been recommended, an SVS Plus sub, Hsu or for more big dollars a Velo SPL or DD sub. It will make a huge impact. The amp will increase detail and dynamics, but won't elevate your system as much as the sub will.

I agree. I'd upgrade the sub first.
If you decide to go the RTi route then I get them second and an amp third. -
Thanks for all the great advice I have one more question how much of an amp do I need for the rti12, lsi,RTi A9 or RTi A7? Power wise? Thanks again!

Probable the easiest amp to find is Adcom GFA 555 @ 200 watts into 2 channels. It has been given a favorably options by many.
