Crossover Point

I have just started to put together an RTi based home theater setup and I was wondering whether I should set my LP x-over at 60Hz or 80Hz. I am currently running RTi4's for front l/r and a CSi3 for the center. Surrounds are some old Cambridge Soundworks switchable bi/dipoles (pre-Newton series) that will soon be replaced by the RTi4's once I get some RTi6's. I looked at the fr for the CSi3 and I was wondering if a 60Hz x-over setting is too low for it?

Thanks!

    Sousa,

65HZ is the CSi3's nominal response. That basically means that it is probably dropping off a good bit at 60Hz. The RTi4's are not that much better. I would play it safe and let your sub do what the sub was meant to do and set your cross-over at 80Hz.

I hate to be generic in my response, but it really only matters what sounds best to you. That being said....

Given your set-up, I would place my bets on a crossover of 80Hz.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Your crossover in your reciever has probably a 12db roll of. I would go with a setting of 60hz. It would elliminate alot of midbass muddle that might accure when setting the xover to high..
