hey all,

Currently I have my Pioneer Elite 72 receiver handling all of the video switching duties to my analog CRT tv...I have the Xbox, digital cable and DVD player all hooked up via component into the receiver and outputted into the tv component...works nice enough..

If I were to get a HDTV, I could probably do the same thing except I could use HDMI instead of component..However since the receiver doesn't upCONVERT (it upSCALES), would I be losing image quality?

Should I hook up the XBOX 360, digital cable, and DVD player directly to the HDTV to get the best picture? then I would be using the Elite for sound only...

I'm thinking if I got a decent upconverting (Oppo?) dvd player, I would probably want to hook that directly up to the HDTV, bypassing the receiver?

not sure on if it would matter either way with the Xbox 360 or digital cable box, though..

or doesn't this all matter because a 1080p tv would upconvert anyways?

thanks for you input..
