Performance Enclosure mounting

Hey guys,

I'm currently building a home w/ a finished basement and have a question about the Polk in wall Performance Enclosure mounting. Once the enclosure is mounted/drywall up, does the speaker have to go in the center on the enclosure.

It's for my surround channels, and I'm thinking I'll have to mount the speakers fairly high on the wall.

Thanks.

It doesn't have to be dead center, but there are braces in the enclosure that can interfere with mounting. Which speakers are you mounting, and how close to the ceiling do you think they need be?

    Cheers,

    Hello,
Thanks for posting on the Forum. Which speaker are you referring to? Once I know which one, I can tell you the location of the mounting holes.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to order the new LC65fx for my surrounds to go with my LC265i fronts. The room will be a dedicated home theater with a riser in the back. I'm concerned that mounting the speaker in the center of the tall enclosure will have them practically at ear level for those in the back row. The room is 18' L x 12' W x 8' H.

So the question may be, which set up would sound better... Using the enclosure and having the speaker near ear level, or not using the enclosure and being able to get them higher.

    Any advice/input is greatly appreciated.

jz, I am dealing with a very similar issue as you are, but I am not using the performance enclosures. I am still grapling with where to put my rear speakers and side speakers. Incidentally, I am using LC65i's as well, with LSi15 and LSiC fronts. I currently have RTi28 s on the back wall and FXi30 s on the side walls.

Here is how I currently have them configured, but was toying with moving the rears down a bit, but will probably run into what you are talking about, having them too close to ear level for the second row, so I will join you in asking that question.... how high should the sides and rears go? Should I keep them in the same place I have them now? I will be moving the sides forward, closer to in line with the first row.

Nice set up. Your side speaker height is a perfect example of my issue. I don't think I can use the performance enclosure b/c the speaker needs to be so high on the wall b/c of the riser.
