Just like the title says, I'm reformatting my desktop. Do I have to deauthorize my iTunes on the desktop first, or what? Then when I get back up and running, can I just sync and send all my music from my iPod to my desktop?

Thanks!!

I never said I download music. And in fact I don't.

But thank you for your (worthless) input.

    Both here and on AIM.

Umm, wow. That was worthless, too.

Especially since I just sat here and watched the whole thing...with no sound...

Just back up your iTunes folder, format the HD, install iTunes and then restore the old iTunes folder on top of the one new created by the new install. You should be OK.

Deauthorize your computer first through itunes BEFORE you format the hard drive. Backup after deauthorizing. When everything is re-installed, re-authorize the comp.

If you format first w/out deauthorizing, itunes will still consider it an authorized computer and it will count against your limit of 5.

it is not priacy he has baught the music and is his to own and do what he likes. it is called media rights i have the right to make back up copies of all my cd dvd blu-ray and computer programs. but i do not have the right to coppy and give them to friends. also i have the right to transfer my music to any format i like like cd dvd tape mp3 mini disk 8 track and lp

now priacy is if i went to lets say kazaa and down loaded the complete metalica cd cloecton.

but o do not buy cd or mp3 any more sence i came to the conclution that it is overpriced and i can just lisiten to it on the raidio. if cd were 3-4 bucks i would buy them heck you can get movies for cheaper than music cd

I thought Itunes music was specifically for Itunes and Ipods....? If you break the DRM to put it on other media isn't that piracy?

Mike, Is there a solution to this if I am reinstalling because of a Windows crash?
Does anyone know how iTunes recognizes your PC?
