I finally finished these things the other evening. I started them WAAAY back last summer. I offered to make a friend of mine from work some rear speaker stands in which he got really pumped up about, so I put these on hold...since I already had speakers it was no big deal. After I completed the stands I just couldn't get re-motivated to finish these...but now these are finally completed.

They aren't perfect cosmetically but I thought I would share some pics with you all anyway. I chose the pictures that looked the most complimentary :D . I will comment on the sound later.

Try not to look at the ugly room please:)

Mike

Very nice work Mike. The veneer looks incredible ,is it cherry?

    Thanks guys.

Yes that is cherry wood. It is a pre designed kit by Kevin Haskins at DIY cable. It is available up here through Creative sound Solutions in Calgary (I think). The only change I made was I used a different hook up wire.

Hey Mike that is REALLY nice! If I may ask, what does one of those kits cost? How difficult is it to put together? And how does it sound?

Thanks guys.....the pictures are somewhat complimentary on the finish I must admit. As far as building the crossovers these were very simple compared to a lot of other speaker schematics I have looked at, which is a good thing...less is more better.:D The cabinets are relatively simple as well. The most difficult thing to do is the baffle cut-outs and the veneer.

Here is the Canadian Source Joe

    http://www.creativesound.ca/details.php?model=KIT2641

The crossover schematics can be found in these pages

    http://www.diycable.com/main/pdf/2641.pdf

I would like to give them a little more time yet before I comment on how they sound because I have noticed that they have improved since I first hooked them up.

    Thanks again,
    Mike

Very nice! The guys from css, exodus, raw and adire are all very nice to deal with. They were able to teach me so much about everything audio from diy speakers to room treatments when I met them last year. The extremis 6.8 and wr125 are both killer drivers to use in a diy design. The wr125's sound great as-is, but throw an extremis or two in the mix and you don't need a sub anymore. This particular kit was one of my favorites out of what they offer.

Keep us posted with any updates, pics or further thoughts! How do they compare to the LSi15's? I never had a chance to do a comparison with any normal production speakers (only other diy models). I've been so tempted to get a kit to build some...

PLEASE HELP cause I am retarded and new to this whole ht thing . I have a HK 245 with polk 6900's. I want to go to 7.1 but Polk is out of the 6801 add ons until end of May at least. Can I use the R300's as front speakers since they are so cheap right know? I knlw it is a stupid question for most but I am stupid.

Of course you can use different speakers in a setup. It *might* sound better to go with the same speakers all the way around, but it's not like it'll sound bad using R300's. You might consider starting a new thread for more questions

    Thanks all.

Phil I ended up turning a friend on to the Consonance gear as well. I just sold him my ref 2.2 a couple of months ago and now he has already sold it to get the MKII as well. He may be demoing the 222 preamp as well. If so we will be having a shootout here with the Modwright.

Respected Mick! I very much would like to make this kit, but it have laid off and have cleaned all information on it! Please, if to you it is not difficult, share with me datasheet and crossover designe. I will reproduce it independently. With deep respect, Michael!

There is nothing wrong with finding old threads like this (it's not a flea market after all). Personally, I have never seen this thread and loved the design. I bought some DIY things from creative sound before, particularly for my DIY sub builds. Will go check out if they still have this kit ;).

Respected mr. Simpson and mr. ViperZ. I hardly manage to understand sense of your references translating to their electronic translator, but nevertheless I wish you to thank for answers. Very interestingly with you to communicate! Yours faithfully.

I don't believe those drivers are made anymore.

Truly, but after all they can be reproduced having the plan and knowing the list of components. I will execute joiner's work itself, it is not necessary for me of ready details of the case as I would make them of other material

You might want to check www.creativesound.ca - they have new full kits for sale, although different speakers / drivers. They also have links and references to the crossover design of their kits.

Hello, sorry for the tardy reply. The tweeter and the midrange are still available however the woofers are from Adire audio which is no longer. The designer of the speaker developed a drop in replacement but that is no longer available either. There are sooooo many capable kits out there I don't know if it is necessary to try to create it or if even possible.

For what it is worth it really is an incredible home theatre speaker...not great for music though as I found the sound to stay at the speaker, which may have been a design goal for home theatre. If you would like to investigate it further I suggest you contact Kevin Haskins at diycable.com ...he is the designer.

edit: I am wrong the drop in is still available http://www.creativesound.ca/details.php?model=SDX7

Kevin Haskins will have the crossover schematics.

    Good luck,
    Mike
