I have a question reguarding a guitar amplifier. when I turn on the amp the rectifier tube glows blue for about a second. After a second the blue glow disappears. The amp sounds fine and everything functions. Is this tube bad? The amp was just serviced, and the tube is a NOS 5Y3.

I've seen many tubes glow blue continuously; never thought it was a problem. And looks cool.

It will most likely be okay, but the life of this rectifier tube may be shortened. BTW, no real reason to use NOS for the 5Y3. You probably have 12 AX7s and 6L6GCs in the same amp and they make more difference in the sound than the rectifier does.

yep I have one 12ax7 and one 6v6. The amp I'm talking about is a vintage fender champ. neat little amp, single ended 5 watt monster.

I like vintage Fender amps. I have 2 Twin Reverbs in the shop for repair as we speak.

Nice amps! I've had my heart set on a deluxe reverb or a tweed princeton. Nothing beats vintage fender grit.:D
