150 Watts to much for SR6500?

After giving a lot of thought to bi amping the SR6500 speakers, I think I would rather upgrade the amp and just supply more power and keep the 4 speaker system I have. I just do not want to have to squeeze another amp into to truck to bi amp the SR6500's in the front, and keep the DB6500's for fill in the rear. I have one amp for the subs under one seat and the 4 channel under the other. Right now I have 70x4, and I was hoping for 100x4. But the size amp I would like is the Alpine PDX series. The 100x4 is not out, but the 150x4 is and is within my budget. I know this is enough to destroy these speaks, but with the crossover protection for the Tweets, I feel the Max sound levels I listen to will keep them well under a safe level. Am I wrong in taking this approach?

Thatll work fine. You seem like you have good common sense, so just use it with the volume control and gain settings and youll be fine.

First of all thank you for your input and patience! It is hard to be a NOOB. But I am a fast learner! What is slowing me down is darn dial up! I live in the sticks and the forest, No dsl, cable or Sat. I have researched back 27 forum pages now, and have a knack for finding answers to my own questions just after I ask them! Murphy! I love the sound and sound stage in my truck, but it could use some more power. I like the extra headroom of the Alpine PDX-4.150, and will probably upgrade the DB 6500 to MMC's. I am beginning to wonder if I should just bag the tweeters in the back? I think they may be drawing the sound stage around. I do like the idea of the better crossover control with the MMC's.

You will be fine that amount of power. Try lowering the level on the rear speakers to keep the image up front. Rear fill works when you can't even tell that the rear speakers are on...... until you turn them completely off. Might not make sense until you try it.

The tweeters in the rear are doing pretty much nothing for your imaging because theyre so directional that unless youve got them firing forward toward your ears, youre not hearing much out of them. Whats killing your stage is the mids.

Is it possible to increase the quality of the mids with the rear speakers without **** things up? I could change them to just about anything up to 6 3/4 and I would have plenty of power. I have played around with the rears on and off and know what a difference they make. The tweets in the back are mounted high and are pointed directly at my ears. The original DB56500 tweets in the front were so bright they distracted me, The ones in the back now are unobtrusive and I am enjoying the clarity of the SR's. I have the SR crossover at -3 and am considering raising them to -1.5. I am intrigued by the concept of reversing the phase of the SR tweets to gain SQ when there is some distance from them and the mids. Mine are about 16 inches apart. I still only have about Ten hours on them yet, but the other day I was playing Snowbound by Don Fagen, and there is a lyric about a loser firing off a flare, I heard the flare gun firing so clearly (I had never heard it before on my old system), that it freaked me out and I instinctively ducked. Thats a thing of beauty!!
