Just snagged these. I make a trip up near Cleveland a few times a year to visit my family. Looks like I'll be making a trip real soon.

The kicker was using Microsoft's Cashback program, which got me another 10% back. Total was $89.91 with Buy It Now. My wife is going to kill me!

Interesting to say the least....no affil

    http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ele/820089949.html

Vintage Spica Angelus Speakers - $250 (oakland lake merritt / grand)

" I've just lowered the price to $250.00 or best offer -- cash only. This is a great deal for a fine quality speaker since they usually go for much more on eBay or Audiogon and were originally priced at $1150.00 - 1250.00.

These are for local pick-up only in Oakland. "

    http://www.stereophile.com/floorloudspeakers/693/index2.html

    "To sum up
Long-awaited, the Angelus is not only the best speaker John Bau could design to sell for $1000, it is one of the best speakers I have heard, not only at this price but among those costing up to twice as much. This is not to say it's perfect: the ultimate dynamic range is more restricted than you might think for a loudspeaker standing nearly four feet tall, and there is a lack of air—sparkle, if you will—in the top octave. The bass, however, makes up in quality what it lacks in absolute quantity—though its level and tuning mean that careful audition in the listener's own room and system will be mandatory. The soundstaging abilities are excellent, not only in lateral and depth definition, but in presenting believable instrumental images within the soundstage. The forte of the Angelus, however, is in its reproduction of voice—utterly natural. Indeed angelic! Recommended. "

Price is too high if you ask me, but they do have stands. I don't know if they are Polk stand, but if they are that's probably a $75 value compared to building your own replicas.

Didn't say what kind of tweeters.

    Got them!

They are the sda srs 2.3 tl.

The speakers are in decent shape. They need some tlc (Needed 1 driver, replaced. Needed the speaker binding post jumpers, replaced) The top caps need a little sanding/minor refinishing and the front/side speaker grill cloth have a couple of snags).

The Hafler DH500 amplifier seems to be in working order (will test tomorrow at full volume).
The Hafler DH110 Preamp needs work (1 rca jack fell off, needs a good cleaning/lube job)
    Will deox it tomorrow.
The Hafler DH330 FM tuner is in excellent condition (just needs good cleaning/lube).
The denon 3 head tape deck and the cd player is trash as well as the monster cable speaker cables.

Overall, I believe the price was fair.

Actually I am looking for a tuner. I don't care about a remote. I listen to one station. Something that sounds good, and locks in good is what I am looking for. I liked my Adcom tuner. Been watching flea pay every once in a while. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Ben

I'd just find a 'sparrow feed' digital tuner. Look at FMTunerinfo for ideas. There are so many good quality digital tuners that end up going for $50 or less on Ebay. Yamaha, Pioneer, Denon, Sony ES, all have good models that go cheap. They also have crappy models too, so do your research.

The reason I'd say go with digital is because most older analog tuners will need an alignment/restoration to give you their full potential. A tuner alignment cannot be done without special equipment and knowledge. I don't care how good of a DIY'er you are, Tuner alignment is a different boat.

On the other hand, most digital tuners from the late 80's/early 90's will be fine without an alignment.

    Some recommended models:
Sony ST-S550ES or basically any of the ES tuners. Just beware of the models that have the 'audio current transfer' outputs because they have a special output cable.

Yamaha TX-5xx, or TX-7xx. The 5xx models go pretty cheap and are fine quality.

Pioneer models starting with F (there is a model F-445 on ebay right now that is almost too cheap to pass up)

Or, just about any Onkyo model. There is a T-4017 ending in a few hours that is only bid to $10. I had a T-407 that was fabulous. Stay away from the really low end models though (check FmTunerinfo)
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I'm listening to the SDA/HAFLER setup.
I'm really surprised how well the 2.3 and the Hafler Dh500 sound together.
I'm currently listening to Roger Water's The pros and cons of hitchhiking.
This is a very dynamic recording that's brutal to amplifiers.
The hafler is able to drive the 2.3 cleanly with alot of punch and dynamic range.
I will keep the hafler gear and sell the 2.3tls. Anyone interested?
