I'm always on the hunt for new vinyl and I mean brand new sealed regular, 180/200 gm or sealed mass marketed.

Do they have to charge this much money for new specialty LPs.

I remember back in the late 80s paying $7 to $10 for MFSL Original Master Recordings as well as special British and Japanese pressings. . . do today's prices reflect the same dollar for dollar value allowing for inflation.

I feel like I'm being gouged.

I don't know where you live, so this may not help you.......BUT, here in Charlotte, we have a store called Manifest. They will order a CD, Vinyl, special release, or whatever for you, so long as it's available.

One example, XRCD Dire Straights, Brothers in Arms.....same price (on-line) as you see for the records you provided the link to $39.00+ tax [plus shipping]. Ordered thru Manifest, $14. Yes, no mis-type, that was a $28.00 difference, after tax and NOT including shipping.

So, with some things, yes. Supply and demand, but if you can find the right store, the prices can be astonishingly lower.

I'm glad I found Manifest in Charlotte, or else I'd be a broke mo-fo' buying up SACD's [which are usually 12.99 to 14.99 as well]!:D Now I'm as happy as a clam in mud!:p

They might have a website on which you can order, but I don't know if they ship, I'll have to check and see. If you can't wait, try typing in Manifest Charlotte on Google and see what you can find out in the meantime. Hope this helps!

Don't tell anybody, but my dumbass spent $135 on the MFSL Bob Marley "Catch a Fire", serial number 3, a few years ago.

Sounds damn good, though. So yeah, supply and demand. Which of those albums are you gonna buy? :D:D

I'm a firm believer when it comes to supply and demand. . . but one thing, are there many lunatics out there just like this vinyl junky that would cause this type of interest in reissues at high rates. Don't get me wrong, if I like something and want it bad enough (which is most of the time) I'll pay. It just seems like because vinyl, anykind, is considered a "high end" preference that companies will charge that premium for ALL of it.

If I wanted to buy let's say 10 LPs that would be $400, that is the price of a VPI SAMA. Do I buy those LPs and have 10 LPs that sound really good on the analog front end I have or do I buy the SAMA and have all my records sound better, even if it's just a little better. . . you get my drift here?

Sadly, vinyl is a niche market. As such, the profit per unit has to be higher to make it profitable.

Sucks but it's better than the alternative (no vinyl)

That is so true, not to many years ago vinyl producttion was nil. . . so I guess I should stop bitching and get the plastic out at the ready LOL.

BTW Troy, I spoke to VPI today about that upgrade for the HW 19 they told me about over a month ago. It is a new platter and bearing with new belt and pulley. . .it is supposed to make the 19 sound as good as the TNT. The price is $299 and can be installed in the home.

I've been wrestling with saving money for a new turntable or do the suspension, SAMA, and this upgrade. When I spoke to a fellow at Music Direct he said, "forget all that buy a really good cartridge and you sound quality will improve greater in relation to the upgrades or new table." I found that to be an interesting reply.

What are you thoughts (and anyone else's) on this one?
