All you H/K AVR guys out there...I need some help.
According to the manual, each individual input setup is customizable.
I have the version II update....All I have been able to accomplish is to have the CD player input set to "Surround Off" and the DVD input set to "Dolby Digital", etc.
What I WANT to do is have the CD input set so that it plays in pure stereo mode... no SUB. Then I want the DVD input to obviously have full surround with crossover to the sub, etc.
I am setting the input to "CD" on the OSD and then set the speaker size of the LH and RH to "Large" and Sub - None. Then, i go back to the input menu and move to DVD to realize that the speaker settings were also changed to large and no sub.
the manual makes this sound very easy in that you go through the inputs and customize all of the settings for each input. Is it that simple? What the hell am I missing?

In the OSD go to the advanced menu at the bottom. Then scroll down to the option for source/last. Choose last. It will keep the last setting you used for that input.Monitor 7b's front

I'll try that tonight. I figured it was something simple, but not obvious.
Thanks!HT

I'm guessing this is the same for the H/K 7300. I'll have to play around with this tonight.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

Setting it to last, allows you to teak it the way you want. Be it going from digital to analog, setting speakers stereo with no sub or with sub, distance and Eq. Then when you go back to that input, everything is the same as you left it.Monitor 7b's front

I talked to H/K again. I can't do what I'm trying to do. The bass management is always a global setting. So, if I have the L and R crossed over at 60hz for HT on the DVD setting, they will be crossed over at 60hz for the CD setting, even if I play in stereo.
The only way to get around this is to run throug the 6 channel direct mode, but the DAC in my DVD player is pretty crappy, so, I guess I'll stick with the sub until I build the 2-channel system upstairs.
a purist 2-channel system just can't be part of my home theater I guess. Better hurry up and buy those LSi's.HT

I know you can switch the mains to Large using just a couple touches of the remote. I think you can turn the sub off as well using the remote.
When I listen to music, I put the mains to large and run in stereo. Easy to switch back and forth with the remote.
A separate 2-channel rig would be ideal. Let me know what you're going with for 2-channel so I can steal your ideas.Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand
Bedroom: Samsung HPR-4252, Toshiba HD-A2, HK 3480, Signal Cable, AQ speaker cable, Totem Dreamcatchers, SVS PB10-NSD, URC MX-850 -

I use an older Harmony Remote most of the time and put the big **** HK remote in a drawer, so I was trying to avoid manual switching.
The demo's of differenent combos of gear I've had at H9's place have pretty much sold me on a 2-channel setup similar to his. It is surprisingly a mix of components that can be had on the used market pretty reasonably.
I bought at Nakamichi CA-5 preamp on ebay a few weeks back to start things out.
I'm probably going to move my GFA-555 to the 2-channel system and find a GFA-545 for my HT....or maybe a 5 channel amp. (Let's face it, the 555 is probably overkill for my RTi70's, but I like it)
I think I'm going to go with LSI15's. There have been a few great deals on the FM lately that I should have grabbed, but I'm too busy right now to worry about putting all this together. Surprisingly the WAF is higher for the 15's than the 9's on stands, so that is the direction I'm goign to go.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do for a source yet. In playing around with the Nak, I discovered the differences in DAC's between the decent DAK I'm using in the HK and the **** DAC in my cheapo DVD player. I was goign to use another JVC DVD player that I have as a source, but it probably has the same DAC as my DVD player in my HT rig. I really don't like the DAC in the DVD player at all. VERY bright. Klipsh horn bright.
So, I may either buy a decent CDP, or us the JVC DVD player as a transport and buy and external DAC or something. I didn't cross that bridge yet. I'm trying to do all this without completely going $$ crazy. This system is for my living room, where originally, I was just going to use my old JVC receiver (sold) and get a $100 pair of bookshelves or something. I've headed quite far from that already.
That's about it...HT

If you want 2 channel stereo then hook up to 6/8 channel direct. There will be no DAC usage at all. It will be pure analog. L/R analog out of player into L/R 6 channel in HK.Monitor 7b's front

Then I'd be using the DAC in my CDP, which sucks.HT
