Have I totally lost my mind?

I'm actually thinking about selling off my 2 channel gear and going balls out on my HT.
My reason; I just don't throw enough money at my 2 channel, nor can I, and I don't use it enough, nor nearly as much as my HT setup.
Tell me I have gone crazy.

Find a way to combine them into one system and you'll be all set.
There is NO law that says you HAVE to have 2 separate systems. I find it highly debatable that one system is unable to handle both well. It should be able to if you have good equipment to support it.
Try it out, if possible use someone else as your ears to see if they can tell the difference and have them blindfold you & do all the switching to see if YOU can actually tell the difference.

How many of us use a dual purpose sound system? I would think around 60% of us have 2 channel married to a HT system.

Well, I'm not combining a 2 channel into my HT. Just not going to happen. Placement is a **** for doing both. My entertainment center is about 75 inches wide, if not wider, and to me, thats way too wide for my main speakers for music. Also, there is no way in hell I, nor my wife, would want my amazings in our HT/family room area.
If I ever combined the two, I knew I would be severely comprimising on the 2 channel -
That was short lived.... Temorary insanity????

What would you have in mind if you were to do this? It would have to be something insane, serious bass that would crack the walls.
Ok no seriously have you had any ideas on your HT project if you decided to go that route?Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

No, it means I would just sell off all my two channel stuff instead of keeping it. -

Either go with dual SVS (I like symmetry), or one big SVS. upgrade the amps powering my speakers, and down the road, jump up to LSi or switch to another brand altogether. And get my BluRay/HDDVD on. -

Sounds like a well laid out plan. One thing I'm learning is that, it never stops. Just when I think Im done, I'm online ordering something. I changed a few of my cables, and like the result, so now Im ordering two more for my HD DVD/BR players.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Shelby.. don't sell off your 2 channel rig.. I thought that was your pride and joy?... instead, what i'd do. if you don't absolutely need the cash, put it all in storage. because once it's gone.. you're gonna miss it to much.
Put together a really good HT, and enjoy. I don't know to many people who are completly satisfied with their HT, using it for 2 channel as well. I have tried myself.. and while it sounds ok.. it's nothing to write home about.
start a poll and see what the consensus is.. not that it's our biz what you do with your gear.. but might be cool too.
P.S. if you DO sell the Carver Amazings.. don't do it till i get the chance to hear them first.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I'm sure I'll keep it for now, its just me thinking out loud.
I think what the problem is that I need to be good about saving money and getting my family off to a good start, but I have become involved in too many hobbies that also happen to be very expensive. Audio, HT, video games, computers, and I'd like to get into photography. All of those, you can spend tens of thousands on them no problem. And I know I am doing my stereo a disservice by not spending more on it. -
Man you sound just like me, I been spending way too much coin. Just bought the ferrari of sportbikes, MV Agusta F4 1000. And I'm still spending coin on HT, photograpy, just bought a new Sony a-100 DSLR with a few lenses and flash. Its crazy right now.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

that usually is the biggest challenge to an all in one rig. While my theater does quite well for 2 channel, I can tell the speakers are to far apart. I've positioned the speakers and listening area to the best of my ability, but I'm not going to move them closer together and ruin the good imaging and sound I get on the theater side in multi channel with the speakers wher ethey are.
its like a frikkin paradox

Alot of 2 ch pres now days have HT bypasses.
This allows you to use your awesome 2 ch gear with a HT preamp/receiver.

Listening to you guys, I can say that luckily, I burned myself out and lost interest in the photography hobby about 3 years ago. Bought most of my stuff in 2001. Nice film SLR with several high end lenses, external flash, etc. Picked up a fairly simple digital shortly before my wife and I got married. After the honeymoon, I realized that the film side was dead to me. Only took 2 rolls of film versus 300 digital photos. It ended up that nearly all of the film shots were worthless. Had a mass exodus of gear after that realization in 2004. Went from a heavy backpack full of gear to just one prosumer digital camera with a good zoom lens. Don't miss film at all and don't really miss having interchangeable lenses. Thankfully, I was done with the photo stuff long before I ever really got hooked on the audio upgrade bug.
I try to focus on one hobby at a timeFor rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -
I realize that Sid, but as posted earlier, placement is the problem. That and my wife would never let me have the Amazings in the HT area which doubles as our family room.
