Wasn't George Clooney originally attached to play the title character?
CULVER CITY, Calif. - There's a new buzz in Hollywood: Columbia Pictures is bringing comic-book hero The Green Hornet to the big screen.
The crime-fighting exploits of The Green Hornet have been chronicled for decades on radio, television and in comic books. On Tuesday, Sony Corp's Columbia Pictures said it was making a motion picture on the newspaper hero.
Neal H. Moritz and Original Film will produce the movie, Columbia Pictures Presidents of Production Matt Tolmach and Doug Belgrad said. Columbia optioned the rights to The Green Hornet from Moritz, who acquired the rights from Green Hornet Inc.
"With the radio show, television program, comic books and novels, there is ample source material to bring this classic crime fighter to life," Moritz said in a statement.
The Green Hornet made his debut on Jan. 31, 1936, on WXYZ Detroit as the creation of the station's George W. Trendle and Fran Striker, who also created the Lone Ranger. The series ran until 1952 on the Mutual and NBC Blue networks.
The Green Hornet ran in several comic books and, in 1966, the character was turned into an ABC-TV series starring Van Williams as The Green Hornet and Bruce Lee as Kato. It ran for one season.

The Van Williams series is one of my very guilty pleasures. Can't wait to see if the movie gets off the ground

I loved watching this as a kid; and Bruce Lee was great on his role._________________________________________________

SOPAThank God for different opinions. Imagine the world if we all wanted the same woman -
In "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story", Van Williams appeared in a cameo as a director of a "Green Hornet" shoot. Jason Scott Lee, who protrayed Bruce Lee in the movie, was originally rumored to be cast as Kato.

'Bout time they injected some comedy into these comic book films. Can't wait.

One of the few times I'll agree with RonP on a movie assessment, although he's actually being too generous, IMO.
I predict this movie will be out for 3 weeks and gross <= $10 million.Sal Palooza -

My wife and I went out to see this last weekend. We were hoping for mild entertainment, a few laughs and generally a nice time out at the movies to finish out the weekend. In seeing the trailers, our expectations were not set high by any measure.
In short:
Epic. Fail.
We found the acting beyond poor, no effects worth anything, and such a weak storyline that we almost got up and left. It's a wonder that this movie was even made. We were amazed the Hollywood executives even agreed to fund it, let alone release it to the general public with their studio name attached. Seriously disappointed. Here's to hoping the other green movie this year will prove much better. *sigh*AVR: Denon X3200W

WOW was this film horrible. To sum up my thoughts on the film I think Dr. Ian Malcolm said it best, so let me quote him...That is one big pile of s@#t!
Skyline was a far better film on all accounts; better acting, story and effects!If...
