Sell receiver, buy pre/pro?

Hey y'all.
I'm hoping I could maybe get some insight as to how worthwhile my potential "exchange" may be. I just feel like I'm wasting a perfectly good receiver (Denon AVR-2807) with it only being a processor. So I'm thinking I maybe sell it to someone who needs it more than I do and go with a dedicated pre/pro.
I guess I want to start digging into a little higher end equipment, and though Denon is definitely a solid brand, I'd like to sway towards the more prestigious processors.

I realize I'll probably get no more than $700 for my AVR, which is fine. If I need to spend a little more to get a step up on a processor, I'm fine with that. I'm also okay with purchasing used.

Could anyone make any decent recommendations for this? Or am I just way better off sticking with the Denon? Thanks guys.

I have been happy with the Outlaw 950. I use it only for HT use but have heard it sounds nice with 2 channel. It has a 2 channel bypass feature.

Also check out the Rotel pre/pro Doro has for sale, I think that would be your best bet.

I see you have a ps3. Do you realize that the denon is one of the few processors that can accept pcm over hdmi? Do you even use this feature on blu-ray movies? I would keep the denon, at least for another year or so until the pre-amps catch up.

Honestly, I'm still pretty much a nOOb. I've heard of PCM, but didn't realize it had more to offer than DD or anything else. Higher bitrate, I'm guessing?

That's a good feature, then. Maybe I'll stick with it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Wow yea. lots of blue-ray disks include PCM tracks. There are uncompressed lossless audio. Much, much better than DD. Just make sure you select that and use the HDMI interface.

You have pre amp outs. Just add amps to you feed all the speakers then buy a pre amp and sell you Denon AVR-2807. This way you can buy what you want 1 amp at a time unless you go mono block. Buy 3 ch amp or 3 mono block for the front and center speakers at first. Denon will run the surrounds.

    Hope this helps,

    Engtaz,

He has a Sunfire 5 channel amplifier, I believe. I would say he is set as far as amplification goes for the next decade or so.

He is already at the step "feed all the speakers then buy a pre amp and sell your Denon."

    Indeed, Andy.

With the PCM curveball, maybe I am better off just waiting. I guess I'm just bored because I haven't purchased something in a couple weeks, and can only afford something if I sell something. ;)

you can configure your system to use PCM over hdmi, and then go buy some nine inch nails or the new Incubus (due out next week) blu-ray disk. That is if your into that type of music.

Dane - Yea, don't get into that mindset or your wallet will be very thin :) I'd suggest you hold out until you decide exactly what you want to do, as well as what's happening with new formats.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Incubus has a BluRay disc coming out?! They're one of my absolute faves... that's excellent news.

Doro, I know, I know. Patience is just a virtue I have yet to master. :p In fact, I'm already looking at what Tylers I want to buy, but that's probably quite a ways down the road. *sigh*

    Thanks everyone!

Sorry about missing the amp. I had another post stuck in my head. It sure is getting crowded in there. Ha HA. Good luck and remember it is only money.
