Gotta say something about this little gem of a cartridge.

Recently added one to my VPI/Sumiko rig. So far in my vinyl journeys, this is the 1st Moving Coil that I've used, and it seems to easily be the best sounding. I'm pretty much blown away!

Its not that pricey, but it seems to be a huge jump over the various moving magnets that I've been using. I've used an AT14SA, AT15Sa, AT155LC, Shure M97xE.

I've had my Mirage for a while and had several variations on the vinyl rig. Listening to my reference ELP self titled album, bass seems to extend another octave lower (to the point of feeling instead of hearing), highs are crisp and clear, but not overy bright or tiring. Its very, very detailed, and is an excellent tracker to boot. Simply the best I've heard from this particular piece of vinyl.

I guess the cartridge originally sold for close to $500. Somehow they've managed to get it down under $300 now (I think JR has the best price). If your shopping for a cartridge in that range, and you've got a phono section that can handle a low output MC (0.4 mv) and load it properly, you should consider trying this cartridge out. With a compliance of 9, it seems to be a perfect match for medium weight arms.

Other carts in this price range might include the Benz MC Silver/Gold or some of the lower Dynavectors, maybe some Ortofon MCs, maybe the Denon 103 or 301II. I think you will find that the AT has the best stylus/cantilever combo in this price range (microline/gold plated boron). Most of the others will be eliptical with aluminum cantilevers.

I think I will be sticking with this combo for quite a while this time. I think I've hit a good synergy on the vinyl rig right now.

By the way, I'm not affiliated with the member selling one of these in the FM. The timing is pure coincidence, unless maybe he saw my posting and decided it was free advertising.
