svs 20-39pci

Thought I had my system all figured out until I started to talk to some of you pros.:D Now the changes are coming fast!;) Already switched my plan from rti6's to fxi5's for the back surround. (Can't wait to get them!) Anyways, was planning on going with the psw505 but after reading alot about woofers and what you guys have to say about svs I have been doing alot of research on them on their website. My room is 14'4"x12'3" with 8'3" cielings. Considering the svs 20-39pci. Just wanted to make sure this was a good move over the psw505 and if it would work with my room size. Thanks!

No need to oversell you...if you're room is sealed or close to it, the PB10 will be a monster performer for you. Their entry level sub is a giant killer. If you want to go bigger, go ahead, but you're going to be more than pleased with the 10"'er.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

The room has two pretty large openings/walkways. Thanks for the input on the pb10. I looked at it a little but wasn't sure if it would be large enough.

I've been very happy with my 20-39 PCi, but you can never have to much sub :) Call or email SVS and give them your room dimensions and they'll help you choose the right sub.

So I contacted svs and told them the plan and shot them the dimensions. I told them I like fairly powerful bass. Recieved what I thought was a great answer. Very complete and imformative. They suggested 20-39 PC-Plus subwoofer or the PB12-NSD/2. They have the same price if I am not mistaken and I am interested in either one. It seems like from what I've read on searching both of them that people love there 20 -39 plus but I couldn't find much at all on the pb12-nsd/2. Any suggestions? Does anybody have a pb12-nsd/2 that could give me an idea on performance? Thanks.

With those room dimensions, I'm surprised they recommended so much sub. The NSD/2 will have monster SPL, the Plus won't have quite the SPL, but better SQ. You must really want to taste the bass and you will with either of those options. If you don't want to have to move a 150lb. sub around, get the cylinder.

I am such a rookie compared to you guys with this stuff! Can someone tell me the meanings of SPL and SQ?

SPL : Sound Pressure Level : Measured in Decibles

SQ : Sound Quality : Subjective Measurement but Usually dead on in Club Polk.

The 20-39PC+ is a Powered Cylinder sub tuned to 20 hertz that is 39" tall and has a 525 watt amp with the + driver.
It is 16" circle and weigh about 60-70 lbs. Easy to move with a bear hug

PB12-nsd/2 is a Powered Box sub which is probably tuned to 18-20 hertz(?) with the 12" NSD driver (which is their latest in the entry line) with 2 12" drivers. This is the size of a large end table and probably weighs @ 130lb. Two people required to move this beast in most cases.

I hope that helps. All of the above is off the top of my head but you get the picture.

Thanks for the definitions. Makes sense! I guess I think I would be happy with either one and I want to make sure that I buy to much sub as opposed to not getting enough. Should give me room to grow too I was thinking. :D Anyways because I can't put the sub where I originally was planning I have had to come up with another spot. It won't be in the corner like I was planning but will have to be on the side wall basically in the middle of the wall. Even though this is not the optimum spot will it still sound good with the amount of sub I will have??

If your room is sealed either sub will pressurize your room and offer insane levels of bass. Both offer variable tuning at 25, 20, 16 and 12hz (though 12hz is not recommended). Personally, if your room isn't large I think the big box is wasted. It will go 2 or 3db louder, but the difference between 114 - 117dbs of bass at max output isn't something you will ever use. Realistically, everyday use will range from 80 - 105dbs (which is neighbors complaining loud).

Talked to ed at svs a little more. They have great customer service. Anyway, ordered a 25-31 pci. Looking forward to trying it out. I really think it will be plenty of sub for my ht room. Figured I can always upgrade later if necessary. Thanks for the input.

Same sub I ended up with. I went ahead and plugged one port to tune to 20HZ. Damn thing still plays freaky loud if you want. Definitely go purchase a SPL meter to dial in a smooth FR.

Let us know how you like it, theres no such thing as too much sub, I have a small room and went with the PB12 plus/2 and its freaky loud, I'm soon to add another only since Im going to a larger room and yes I love the taste of bass.

Got my svs today. It looks awesome! It is bigger than what I had pictured, not that this is necessarily a bad thing. I have the room in the corner for it. Overall impressed with the craftmanship and detail. What sucks is I don't have all my equipment yet (It's all on its way) so I can't even try it out or start playing with it. So I have to patiently wait for the rest of the stuff, which is a little difficult!!
