Anyone want to swap big SDAs for big McIntosh speakers?

This purely a shot in the dark, but thought I'd try it for S&Gs. I have a pair of McIntosh ML-2C speakers, the big ones the size of dishwashers, and I'll be finished restoring them (crossover and tweeters) soon. Also have a pair of ML-1Cs that are in middling condition. The cabinets on both have some scrapes and bumps from a careless previous owner, but all the woofers and midranges have been refoamed. These are remarkable speakers that can hit a flat 20Hz.

Now, my listening room is probably about the size of what most members use for clothes closets. While listening to music by sitting roughly inside the woofer cones is quite an experience, it's not terribly practical to have such immense speakers. It also happens that my dream speakers for years (although I have yet to hear a fully working set) have been a set of big Polk SDA or SRS models, which helpfully don't take up a ton of floor space.

So, if by any crazy coincidence you live on the east coast and have a pair of large SDAs and want a pair of even larger McIntosh speakers, I'm your man.

I'm assuming you're talking about the speakers I've posted for sale in the past? I bring home and audition any classic speakers I can find, some look great and some don't. Of the ones I've listed here only a couple were in so-so shape and I said it. The new owners are enjoying them regardless.

Really, like I said, I'm simply just trying to see if anyone might be interested. These Mac speakers are not old junk, and are some of the great "big speakers" right up there with the Bozak Symphony, Klipschorn, and Altecs. I'd just as soon keep them.

If you have a problem, come out and say it instead of taking shots.

I have one photo I took when I first got them, although it's not very good. I'll have to dig that out.

The ML-2C is about the size of your average dishwasher, or perhaps an oven range. Hip Danish Modern styling. :) If you want a refrigerator, the ML-4C is like a full-size one on its side--I've never even seen one in person.

Not sure about the value. Seems like ML-2Cs are in the $700-1000+ range depending on condition. I DO have the special equalizer. I also have a pair of ML-1Cs that I'd include. The 1C's would be around $400 if they were 100%, but I used the high-midranges (NLA) in the 2Cs. Roger Russell (original Mac design) sells a kit to retrofit ML-1s with modern midranges.

Well In have 5 sets of various SDA speakers. Maybe I should consider a trade and get mote diversified.

I'm in MA, can I listen to your speakers some time that is good for you?

I'm not quite done with them yet, still need to finish working on the crossovers and get the last tweeters in. Might recap the equalizer while I'm at it. I'll update when they're available, and get some better pics.

If anyone does want to audition them in the future I'll warn you that my listening room is minature and has weird accoustics from a low roof dormer. If I knew someone was going to take them I'd move them downstairs into the living room, but they weigh 150+ each so I'm not sure I'd do that on speculation.

Edit: Photo from the day I got them. ML-1Cs are stacked on top. Grills look better in person, cabinet tops look a little worse.

And here's a pic of the equalizer. Brings the bass to a flat 20Hz.
