SVS 20-39 PC plus and a PSW505

I'm currently running the PSW505 but am going to order the SVS 20-39 PC plus sub. My room is 18'x17', 9 foot ceiling. My question: should I set up dual subs, or will the PC+ be more than sufficient, and move the PSW505 to a new location, or sell it. I'm not opposed to big bass, but am opposed to wasting a good subwoofer.

I would sell it. I don't think that they will sound good together at all. Sell it and put the $$$ toward another SVS.

Before you sell try setting th XO on the SVS at 50, and the XO on the Polk at 80. Use an SPL meter ($50 at radio shack) and test your room frequency. If you are a music lover you may just want to use the svs, for HT try both. You have a big room:D

Ben is right. Try both first. Maybe you will like it but another SVS would be better.

Try the SVS by itself; for your room size you really won't need any more bass (though you might "want" more )

Would a Y splitter at the AVR sub out be the best option for dual?

I run a Polk and an SVS in my set-up and couldn't be happier. My room is 17x14 8ft ceilings. Try-um both via the y-splitter you mentioned (thats the way I do it) I think you'll be happy as well.

Does the Y splitter manuf. make much of a difference for signal purposes? I'm looking at one from bluejeans (inexpensive) to go along with a 400 ft. order of CL3 12awg.

okay - if I decide to hook them both up and set the XO on SVS to 50 and the Polk to 80, what is the best way to hook them together? If I use the LFE in, will I not lose the subs internal XO and will it be impossible to set the 2 subs at 50 and 80 seperately? (sorry for the newbie questions, but I cannot find this info. on the forum)

The 20-39+ has a xover switch. Y out of the subout to both subs, set the crossover on the pre/pro to 80hz. Set the xover on the SVS to 50 (be sure the switch is enabled). Either disable the xover on the 505 or turn it all the way up (not familiar with the amps controls). That should do it. If you split them FR response will be different for each sub and calibration will be tricky.

Let us know how it sounds.

What he said, and play with the XO's. It would also help knowing what your mains are. If they are smaller drivers you may want to go as high as 120 on the Polk. Nothing is set in stone here. Play with both. Every sub, and room(not just size) is different. Most likely you will want to put the SVS in a corner if you are running the polk higher. Listen a while with different setups, then decide if you want to sell the Polk.

I've now recently received the SVS 20-39 pc+ and have set it up properly with the RS SPL. Anyone reading this, and is thinking of matching this sub to a psw505 for dual subs....well....don't waste your time. Drop the psw505 asap and stick with svs. This is the cleanest, most powerful bass that I have ever heard. Where did all the boominess go? I'll tell you....to a buyer on e-bay!!! As most of you know, and as I've recently discovered, these subs cannot be compared fairly as they are in totally different realms of SQ. Hands down, best HT purchase to date.

Kinda thought this would be your conclusion. There's no similarity to each other's sound signature. It probably would have muddied up your room. Enjoy your sub.
