What do you guys think the difference is? I have only 2 opticals in my pre, and I need one for the puter. Is running the DVD with coax any different than optical? I understand that both are unprocessed digital signals?
Thanks Ben

I don't know if there's a difference or not but I had the choice between optical and coax out of my VCR/DVD unit and I used optical. I figured if there was any possiblilty of problems it would be with the coax. Fiber can't be "influenced" with any stray voltages or RF. About the only problem with fiber would be if the TOSLINK "cable" was inferior for some reason. The both the 12' ones I bought from monoprice.com ($15.00 total including shipping) worked great.Be gentle, I'm new to all this...

In my experience, Toslink tends to be the most neutral, coax a touch warmer. It depends on what you're after.
Toslink would be good if you think you're going to have to snake thru a bunch of wires as it's totally RF immune.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

The links didn't work
The DVD player is right next to the pre (1 1/2 foot run).
Both optical and coax send the same ones and zeros correct?
