What do you guys think?
I am runnig SDA-SRS's with an Adcom GFA-585 now (400per @4ohms)
The sunfire is also 400 per at 4ohms.
Anyone ever run sunfire on big SDA's?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=006&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=160093793791&rd=1&rd=1

Does the link work?

Thanks guys(and gals)

I know a local guy that used to be an audiophile, he has a pair of Carver Silver 9T monoblocks collecting dust. I think they are 450watts/8ohm. You can probably get a good deal on them.

Might have been a lateral move. Those 585's are very hard to beat unless you go a few more steps up the chain. Nothing wrong with trying something different. Keep us posted. :D

Agreed. I am selling my GFA-7500, and for that price I figured I'd try it. If I don't like it I am sure I can at least get my money back! Also I have a GFA-555 for the rears. Would 200 (sunfire)for the tweets, and 400 (adcom)for the mids be a good mix?

    Thanks Ben

Not sure, try it. Sunfire is a very nice amp see what works best for you. At least you got rid of something before getting another :D;), that always helps

I used a Sunfire Symphonic Reference amp with my SDAs. It worked fine. It was a lot of amp for the SDAs. The SDAs are effecient as can be. You'll be fine for what you are going with.

Just curious. Why did you go with a multichannel amp? Are you using your SDAs in a surround sound setup, or just two channel?

Right now I have 3.1's inthe rear, and SDA-SRS's up front. I am getting rid of 3.1TL's, and rebuilding my RTA15tl's. I don't really care for SDA's all around. Just a simple experiment. Listen to some SDA's facing the other way.

I know that when I swapped in my Sunfire amp, the difference was apparent. Night and day compared to what I was using it with. It also compared very favorably with whatever other amp I might have swapped in for the time being. I see no reason why you won't like the Sunfire.

I agree thats one heck of a deal for a quality surround amp. You could have done much worse.

That they are V & to be relatively lightweight is the best!

Well, now how the hell did I forget you CAT. You run a badboy Sunfire, of course, you could use some biggins, SDA Biggins that is.

The Carver were powerful no doubt, of course that weight thing, I think they were twenty five pounds or something around that a piece, always messed with me, had to do with how they worked, cant remember now too old, I sent them on the Anthony, the bugger now has 5 of them, he is cornering the market.

So when Ben gets his Sunfire hooked up he can tell you, big power on a large radiating surface and all that. Since he is an Adcom man it will be interesting to hear his viewpoint.

While I loved the SDA's I heard at PF2005, I simply have NO room for any of them! I have just enough room for my RTA-8T's.

I'm quite comfortable with the deal. I have his Phone number, and address. I also told them that I would be sending a USPS money order for fear of fraud. He was comfortable with that, and he gave his work, and home P#ers.

    Ben,
I will let you know. I will try the Carver 1.5t that comes with the SDAs I just won and the Sunfire 5X400 8 ohm that I currently own to see what sounds better. The Sunfire I will bi-amp the polks using 4 of the 5 channels. I believe the SDAs are 4 ohm? Then would this be 800/channel highs & 800/ channel on the mids (total of 1600/channel)? Or am I way off on this?

The Sunfire will kick the Carver squarely in the nuts. I did a similar comparison and the Sunfire was clearly better.

Big numbers you guys are throwing around here. Love Sunfire and Carver gear. . . although I've only owned the latter to this point.

Great snag(s) you guys! Write us some reviews so I know to put Sunfire on my wishlist or not.

I just finished installing my sunfire signature 5 channel into my ht setup. I have not experienced other separates in my home but after much research and paying attention to this site I committed. To say I was pleased with the outcome is an understatement. The entire soundstage is more open and the subtle back ground sounds are now where they belong, not in the sound stage. The polk 1.2tl's have a beautiful soundstage by themselves but the speakers are really alive now. Separation of the different sounds that the engineer making the sound track intended, are now more clearly defined. I stepped up from the denon 5700avr and i am quite satisfied with the investment.

Really? I have heard that the older Carvers blow away the Sunfire's. That Sunfire crapped out big time when Bob left the company. Don't kill the messenger, just what I heard.

I am going to compare the regular cinima grand to the Adcom GFA-585. Both are 400@4. On paper the Adcom beats out the Sunfire in just about every way. I have learned over the years that ears are better than numbers. We shall see(hear).

    I use dual Sunfire CG Signature II's ( 425 wpc @ 8 ohms ) w/a Cinepro 1K2 ( 500 wpc @ 4 ohms ) in my HT to drive SRT's, center and surrounds ...

The towers are triamped ( each Stereo Array, SDA Array and Sub separately i.e. two channels of Sunfire and one Cinepro channel for each tower for a total of about 1.3-1.4 kwpc ), the center is biamped and others speakers normally amped ( 12 Channels Total ) ...

Some degree of overkill and while I've tested some alternatives, I haven't found a reason to swap equipment in quite awhile.

Agreed, I have no input because I have heard neither amp. Both have a good reputation.
