Here's two interesting songs I've come across in my recent CD purchases.

Sheryl Crow - "Sheryl Crow"
The first song called "Maybe Angles" starts off with this funky sound (not sure what it is) that crescendos out of some wind noise in the right channel. The crazy thing about it is it sounds like it's coming from 3' outside of the right speaker. The first time I heard it I was looking at the side wall of the room. Very freaky (and cool). This might be an interesting SDA demo.

Bela Fleck & the Flecktones - "Greatest Hits"
The song "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" (man I love that title) has a ton of bass. The bass guitar just lumbers through the song presumably like a hippo would fly through space. At two areas in particular the bass goes down pretty deep. I guess if I'm hearing it on my system it must not get below the 30's, but it sounds pretty deep to me.

Esthero - Breath From Another .. sorta breakbeat, acid jazz, and a little hiphop mixed with a great female vocalist

Soulstice - Illusions .. kinda like Esthero but more electronic

Blue Six - Beautiful Tomorrow ... VERY smooth laid back sexy house. Love it.

"Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" does have some deep bass. Victor Wooten is using a slide to make it go so low. I have the album "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" and that song is the coolest one on there.

Lately, I've been listening to Dave Matthews just about every day. Mostly 'Busted Stuff.' Also the new Chili Peppers album, which is great, but still no Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Besides those, some Thelonious Monk and Dave Brubeck at night.

Zappa - Wacka Jawacka & Weasels Ripped my Flesh
Jesus Christ Superstar - Movie Soundtrack
Whatever WDET (public radio) happens to be playing.

Last weekend we had a Coltrane day. The salesman even commented on my Coltrane shirt as I was checking out some Martin Logans and a used Mac amp.

Okay, look: I'd like someone to write me a real detailed review of one of these great new sounds.

Here's an attached doc that is basically a "review template" for the Polk newspaper.

Either fill it out and copy/paste it into a post here, or just resave it for yourself and email it back to me here.

Make it real, make it good, and I'll use it in the next Newspaper.
