RTi Or Monitor

I want to upgrade my front speaker's with either RTi8's or Monitor 70's and possibly RTi10's if the 8's are weaker in the base area. I would like some bass to seperate the channels for movies and such, but I also love treble and it is the higher priority. How would Tweeter's rate compared to each model and would I need upgrade to the RTi10's if the bass on 8's is weaker than the 70's. I hope someone could offer a few suggestion's all would be appriciated.

I have a pair of Monitor 70s, and I love them. They have really good bass, I have a small PSW10 sub to go with them. I don't know anything about the rTi's, but you most likely wouldn't be disappointed with the Mon70s.

Sounds like the RTi 10's are what you are looking for. They need some power to sound their best, even more than I am giving them, so you will have to factor that into your budget. I am thinking about bi-amping mine today with @ 200wpc to see how the sound rather than 100wpc.

I have not heard the monitor 70's but they seem to get good reviews from others.

    Welcome and have fun.

How much money do you want to spend? To me, you are comparing apples to oranges! Without a doubt the Rti series is a superior speaker line.. The bass of the Rti 10 or 12 are very good.. Not too sure of the prices at the moment, at least not off the top of my head, but they are coming out with the new RtiA speakers to replace the former Rti line.. You may be able to pick those up somewhere for clearance once the new line comes out.

Listen to both models with your own ears before you decide.
I've had the 70's and upgraded to the Rti10's and they are worlds apart in my opinion. You said treble is a higher priority, well then the Rti line is for you. This was my biggest complaint with the 70's... the high end was not detailed and crisp and clear. Also the Rti's extend lower in bass.

I had 70's for about a month and they sounded great with my Denon 887 but now I have RTi12's and they are not as full out of the box but once you get some more power behind them holy crap....You will be glad you got the RT's.

I find the Monitors too bass heavy and even kind of muddy, but I really think that's mostly because of a lack of detail in the high end. The 70's are the only ones I'd consider, but the RTi's would probably fill the bill for you better.

    Just look at the specs.

    Rti 10: frequency response 35-26,000 Hz (-3dB)

    Woofer Composition Polymer composite
    _____________________________________________________________

    Monitor 70's: frequency response 40-24,000 Hz (-3dB)

    Woofer Composition Bi-laminate

I was once at the same crossroads as you. I looked at the specs and most of all listened with my ears.

I chose the RTI 10's ans i have been enjoying them for almost three years now.

I hope in some way this helps.

I brought Monitor 60, Rti8, and, Rti10 home and compared them. Eventually, I kept only Rti 8s.

Tried them with both HK AVR 245 and 645 as the only power source. Rti10 sounded worse than 8s, perhaps because of lacking power (separate amp). 8s has quite good bass for music (jazz, classic, etc.). For movie, sub is required. But, for movies, even you take rti10s, you probably can't go without sub. So, from my own experience, since I don't plan to go for separate amp, Rti8 and a decent sub is the best option. If you do have the budget and all the high end separate amp lined up, that's another story. Monitor 60 was too bright, even coupled with HK AVR. No experience with M-70s.

I would honestly say that you would have to listen on your own...I did and there was no comparison between the Monitor and the RTi line....but this whole speaker thing is so subjective with budgets, sound, etc...

Do yourself a favor and audition both and make your choice...

    same impression here.
Mon series when coupled with SW, looses its slight over brightness.
I matched Marantz AVR, Mon 60 and a pws10, over all it is a great budget setup for condos, and smaller rooms.
