Optimal configuration?

My rockets are set to arrive mid-week, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to get everything ready. Here are the components with available outputs:

Scientific Atlanta 8300 (HD-STB):
- 1 HDMI out
- 1 Component/Adio set of outs
- 1 Digital out
- 1 Optical audio out
- 1 S-video out

Sony DVD player:
- 1 Digital out
- 1 Line out-audio/video
- 1 S-video out
- 1 Component out

The receiver is the Panny xr57 and the TV is a 50" Sony lcd (DVI). How should I interconnect all these for optimal use? Currently I have an hdmi/dvi cable from the stb to the tv, and component cables from the dvd player to the tv. Let me know if you need anymore info. TIA!

Chad

First off Welcome to Polk Forum.

The feeling is that on a Digital type TV LCD / Plasma the best input is HDMI, so if the AVR can switch HDMI than go that route if you wish. It's not necessary to do it this way, I myself have an old AVR which doesn't do HDMI so I use a remote Harmony 880 for all my input switching needs on TV and AVR. Your DVD player component out well works fine, take it you feeding the AVR with a digital audio feed Coax / Optical.
