Hey guys, been lurking forever here. Would like some input on what would be a better entry level HT processor. I'm currently looking at either the HK 235 or the Denon 2106. Looking to pick up some lsi9's also to start my upgrade hobby. Would be a 50/50 music/HT setup. I know neither will drive the 9's to their potential, will upgrade with an amp later. Right now I just have a hodgepodge of old stuff and my current onkyo doesn't have preouts, so I need to start there. Thanks.

Plan out your upgrade path. Will this Avr be a permanent fixture or will you move on to a dedicated HT pre/pro later. If so, don't spend too much on the reciever.

Either models should do well as long as lsi9's are used in stereo.
Gear: Rotel RC 1082, Rotel RSP 1068 pre/pro, Rotel RMB1077 amp, Cayin CDT 15a CD player, S301 bluray.

Speakers: Tannoy DC sensys speakers, Paradigm Servo15 Sub, Velo Spl-1500r

    Conditioner: Isotek :D

Well that's kind of why I'm looking at the bottom of the line avr's that have pre-outs. I believe the HK and the Denon are in the same price range($300 used/refurb) and both have pre-outs. I just thought someone might have knowledge on which will match better with the 9's until I can upgrade to an amp. Also if there is any significant difference in the quality of the decoding paths for the HT aspect?

I think I have my upgrade path worked out, but we all know that's not written in stone. Want to get the avr and 9's to start. I need a new sub, but I live in a condo so I'm not pressed to do that right away, in fear of pissing off the neighbors. A new center would be next, then maybe an amp for the front stage. At that point I don't know if I want to go 7's in the rear or go 15's in the front, moving the 9's to the back. That will probably depend on where I'm living and the amount of space.

You probably noticed, and maybe you have other source, but there is a set of LSI 9's (from ND13) on the fleamarket right now if you are still in need.

    The Denon.

I have the Denon 2106 and very happy on it, so I'll pick Denon.

I'd also vote for the Denon.

Have you looked at the Onkyo TX-SR804? Also a very nice unit, sound quality is quite good. I compared to a Denon 3806 with the Onkyo and both are nice AVRs.
