After one listen, I dig this album. "Intervention" and "No Cars Go" are my favorite tracks so far. Complex, building sound. As soon as it finished I wanted to listen again.
The album may not be as good as Funeral, but not many albums of the past few years have been.
In general, highly recommended. Check it out!

I think you mean "not many albums in the last few decades have been"
This may seem like a major overstatement, but I was just listening to Funeral last night and it is epic on every level.
Have you seen them perform live? They somehow take it to another level. Who would think with as many instruments, harmonies, odd time signatures, etc. etc. that it would come off as anything other than a bombastic mess?
Instead.. it's glorious. They really are on another plane right now. Kind of a band's "band". If you have a chance, download their recent set on Saturday Night Live. They transformed the venue.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -

I love the Arcade Fire, but they sucked every time I saw them live. Win and his wife R -
Wow... we must have seen two different bands. I suppose it's a difficult act to pull off and it could easily go down in flames. But they managed to make it happen the few times I've seen 'em and each time I've been floored. Jaw meet floor. As for their singing.... it may never be the best technically, but it fits the music perfectly.
Did their new album come out this Tuesday?I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Like I said, I am a very big fan of the band, they just were never able to reproduce the sound very well vocally when I've seen them. Granted, this was like nearly 3 years ago when they were still an opening act.
When I say that, I don't mean I want to hear the record, but I expect that the ecentric style of singing to still be in key. That's what they had problems doing.
Do you happen do to have the last Coachella movie? Same story there, and that was what -- a year and a half ago?
Some claim the off-key stuff is deliberate, but I don't buy it. It sounds so good on the album.
This is one of their better performances (...and best songs!):

Gosh dern it... I can't get sound.
"Nope" to the Coachella flick...

It makes me happy Polkies are starting these threads and it's not me. I was talking about this band here 2 1/2 years ago, among many others. Nobody cared. *cry*

hahaha -- too true.
Say, have you ever listened to the Appleseed Cast? If not, get yourself a copy of Low Level Owl Vol I & II (preferably on LP). Listen to them in full and in order, and then come back and pat me on the back.
My buddy Aaron is their current drummer. -
Yeah, Funeral is one amazing album. Check it out on vinyl--the separation of instruments and layered sound really shine.
Zombie, haven't seen them live, but I have tickets to the May 18 show in Chicago. They're in town for three shows (Thurs, Fri, Sat) and all of 'em sold out in a matter of hours. Couldn't be more excited.
I'm eager to hear both your thoughts on Neon Bible.Von Schweikert VR4-jr

My thoughts are? It's pretty damn good, but I only have one listen so far.
One thing that stuck out immediately is that Win now sounds like Bruce Springsteen circa Born in the U.S.A. -- don't buy it? Check out tracks 2 & 8.
The album is at it's best when they're not trying to be quiet, in my opinion. I like that it's a little darker and heavier than the last album.
Also picked up the new Air album tonight. Some of you might want to check them out, but they are definitely not for everyone. -
Demi... I trust that you're on your umpteenth listen by now and have upgraded your opinion.
Trust me. I am not prone to overstatement, but I think this may very well be the best album in the last seven years. At the very least, Intervention is the best song in the last ten years. I haven't been that moved in a long time. Outstandingly and breathtakingly gorgeous creation by Arcade Fire. From start to finish, there isn't a misstep.

Zombie, you think Neon Bible is better than Funeral? I'm curious why you say seven years...Kid A?Von Schweikert VR4-jr

Yes... I do think it's better. And not by a slim margin.... There really is something about this album which has struck a chord with me. It is unbelievably larger than life musically, imagistically, and lyrically. I chose "seven years" somewhat randomly because I don't want to overextend my assertion. But I would not be surprised in the least if this turns up as number one or two on tons of "best of..." lists, once this decade is over.
U2 would have happily traded-in both Boy and War for Neon Bible.I never had it like this where I grew up. This is what music is all about.
I didn't get more than one listen so far, but I know it's a real good album after just that one listen.
It's definitely better than Funeral. That album was fantastic, but it grates on you after a while (at least me). -
Bump.
A month later, this album keeps getting better for me. Incredible music. Very dark, but very beautiful.
I still think Funeral is a little better, but not by much.

It still keeps getting better and the wife still keeps bogarting it.
It appears I'm going to have to get my own copy.
I had a really good friend and die-hard Springsteen fan compare this album to Born to Run on first listen. I thought it was an interesting comparison and one that has merit. Cacaphonous, sweeping melodies accompanied by soaring vocals.I never had it like this where I grew up.
