Condo Life

I will soon be moving to a condo. My question is for those currently living in one. Im obviously bringing my system over but im concerned with the amount of noise/vibration it will cause. I will have neighbors upstairs and on both sides of me. I know my SVS wont help matters.

So my long winded question is how do you keep your neighbors from complaining? Are there tricks to helping keep the sound in (i.e. marble slabs under the speakers...)?

Thanks in advance for the advise!

you probably don't want to hear this, but sell the sub. Your fronts will provide more than enough bass. the sub will just rattle your neighbors windows.

Are the floors and walls concrete?
We live in a garden home which is also condo and have people who live above and beside us. Keep your sub just turn it way down. If they are young invite them over and be frank with them say if ever it's to loud call me. Or have some one play stuff on your system and ask them if they can hear it.

Man, that'll be my worry in about 8-9 yrs. I'd say test the waters with the neighbors first. If they aren't happy, shoot 'em. Or dump the sub.

i agree, I live in a condo now. I have the pb 12 plus 2 running and never had a single complaint. Matter of fact sometimes I can hear my sub rumbling when Im outside to take the trash, not a single complaint at all. Whats even funnier, I sold my upstairs neighbor a panasonic box theater and the neighbors on top of him complain when he's gaming, thats very funny to me.

Moral of the story, keep your setup, you may end up with good neighbors above/below and next to you. I would definitely show the system off, more likely they'll want to experience it themselves.

Don't sell anything! I'm living in a 700 SF rental with 10X more power than I'll ever need for the size of my living room. I tried to carry the boxes in quickly so the neighbors didn't see!

When I lived in a condo, my sub was put in storage for 3 years. Do not even think about a sub in a condo/apartment setting. It is common sense and respect. Even if you have cool neighbors there will be times when they will not want to hear the rumbles. No amount of soundproofing will stop low frequency bass. I soundproofed my condo for general noise bleed but any common structures will be a bridge for bass. I ended up making a concrete platform with sand and isolation for my towers that stopped bass transmission to connected apartments to an extent, but I still kept it low.

Keep your system and be very conservative. Store your sub. Buy a house.
