Doesn't look like much bracing in there....sound familiar?

It's a really nice subwoofer, as I've owned one albeit an much earlier VMPS.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Yeah, I think Im the only person on this earth that will jam 220 inches of bracing in a 1.5 cu ft enclosure.

    *sigh*

Bracing is good. The DefTechs that I have suffer from a little bit of lack of bracing.

So, if you are selling the modded version, how much are you asking for them?

Or is it as part of the package (+S/H) with the original DT BP10B's?

OK, I am debating between the modded DT BP10B's and brand new BP7001SC towers from a dealer.

The modded ones do also include DefTech drivers, or do I have to install drivers in the enclosures since I already have the BP10B's?

    You have to install them.

    Of course.

With the modded enclosure, you can pretty much dress it up how you like if you dont like the finish. The side panels are held on by screws - the finish can be sanded off...

The thing is, it has about 200 in parts in it, total.

FWIW, if you plan on getting dual subs...anything - the last thing you need are super towers. There is no real difference between the two except for the subs and enclosures, which mine are built better anyways.

Just no real improvements over the 10's.

The BP10 was Def Techs first bipolar speaker, and theres a reason why the BP10B was/is on the shelf for 11 years.

The Super Tower line ups last maybe 3-5 years max.

The problem I have right now is that the DefTech BP10B's are not as warm sounding as I would like. They have lots of bass, the highs are clear, but the speakers just lack that mid-range warmth that I feel could be achieved with the SuperTowers (which are crossed over at 120Hz or so).

That's why I am interested in going 7001SC towers + dual Ultras.

If you want midrange warmth, you need to be looking into the BP30 - the 70001sc, great speaker - just isnt needed in your situation.

Isn't the BP30 the same as the BP10B plus two more 6.5" midbasses?

I'm looking for warmth in the 80-120Hz range.

BTW, the BP10Bs have a bit too much bass. I am not even using a subwoofer now and the bass is overwhelming!

The warmth I am looking for is by getting a 7001sc tower and then turning DOWN the subs...

Yes, the 10s have loads of bass. Its partly due to the lack of bracing, lots of exagerated bass.

The modded enclosures really tighten that up and bring out the clarity of the mids more.

So wouldn't I benefit by going 7001SC which are crossed over at like 120Hz internally, then turn down the bass dials on the back, so that I get midrange warmth from 80-120Hz but not exaggerated bass from 30-80Hz.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't a $3500 speaker (BP7001SC) sound better than a $1400 speaker from the same manufacturer (BP30)?

    Depends...

Do you think a 2500 dollar speaker, that is the same as a 1400 dollar speaker, just with subs is better?

The Super Tower series is nice, but its essentially the same exact thing as the BP30 with a 2000 dollar subwoofer attached.

Price does not always reflect quality, just sometimes mere convenience.

    Sure, completely understand ya.

The BP30 will probably provide more bass than the 10B's. I already have plenty, if not too much bass with the BP10B's, even with my receiver set at -2db on bass and 0db on treble.

With the BP7001SC, I can set the crossover on my AVR to 80Hz, and since the speakers have a 120Hz (internal) crossover I can adjust the lower-mid range levels from 80-120Hz. That is what I am looking for; the ability to lower the amount of bass from the towers while improving mid-range warmth.

Essentially I would allow the 10" SuperCube woofer in the 7001SC towers to cover the 80-120Hz section to provide more warmth, then from 120Hz up I will have a clearer midrange. Also this set up will not have as much exaggerated bass as the 10B's.

Or am I completely wrong in my reasoning?

    Wrong or not.

    It makes no sense.

Why would you want to get subwoofers just to cross them over at 80hz.

The subwoofers still function from 80Hz-120Hz, then the mids take over from 120Hz up.

    Aware...

But you are paying... buttloads of money for something to only do 40hz...

40hz that IMO subwoofers shouldnt be doing anyways.

Buttloads of money? The 7001SCs are approx. 3500. Not as much as the 7000SC's.

I have heard the BP30 vs. the BP7001SC, and I felt the BP7001SC sounded warmer. Or was my mind playing tricks with me?

BTW, the above was with Linn separates driving the system.

The BP30 had lots of bass - not exactly what I want, but the BP7001SC were warmer in the midrange section (when the built-in subs were turned WAY down)...

With the built-in subs turned up to 11 o'clock the SuperTowers sounded just like the BP30, but with the subs turned down enough (run flat) the SuperTowers really shined.
