I'm somewhat in a quandry, and could use some advice on an upgrade for the HT. The equipment in my HT/media room is what I'd consider somewhat out dated. The B&K gear gives a fine sound for HT and have no complaints. However, The video switching, ie. composite, component, HDMI, cable, xbox is overwhelming the ref 30 and it is not able to accept HDMI at all. So I have all these wires running to the TV.

I thought about dumping the B&K pre for a Denon 4806CI since it appears to have the video capabilities I think I need to be somewhat futureproof and enable me to have the best possible picture quality.

Could you folks offer another option? Thanks, Gordon

If your TV doesn't have enough inputs you may want to upgrade your pre pro. If you do decide to sell your B&K PM me that is what I am looking for. I don't really need a bunch of video input options. It basically comes down to do you really want to spend the extra cash to have the added convenience of video switching.

    Enjoy Ben
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I've not personally compared HDMI vs Component for HD content. I have compared DVI vs Component on DVD content and I found no discernible difference in PQ. I am personally holding off on the HDMI switching until I purchase a 1080P projector and 1080P player. Even then, I suspect the difference in PQ will be nominal. The clarity on 720P is amazing, 1080i even better via component. To me, you're downgrading your audio performance for nominal (on 1080p content) improvements in video.

I'd also hold off unless it's really something that would make your life easier, as I'm all for that. I love the upgradeablility of the B&K and am looking forward to the next iteration for my AVR317 to become available.

BTW, I called B&K the other day to see if HDMI switching is "upgradeable" for the 307 or 507 and the answer was no.

Good to know but I don't have an overwhelming need to be trendy anyways. I'm moreso interested in the other upgrades, not connectivity per se. The 317 is a 507 inside.

    Thanks for the information Wallstreet.

I don't really want to dump the B&K since I dig the sound of it. I've done some some googles on outboard video switchers but no luck. Maybe I'm not wording it correctly?

My TV has plenty of inputs but I'd like to try and eliminate some of the manual switching for the wife. I've got the cable box, xbox and dvd to switch back and forth.

Is there an outboard switcher anywhere?

Just a thought but if your TV has plenty of inputs maybe you could use a remote, for instance Logitech Harmony, that switches the TV input automatically.
