I have the chance to snag some for $2400 of the 'gon. I would be replacing my Sunfire Symphonic Reference 250/ch amplifier. Your thoughts on if I should do it? And for review, my speakers are Carver Amazings.

Of course you should do it, get rid of the Sunfire.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Are you saying you like the Bel Canto, or are you just hating on Mr. Carver and his amps?

.........too bad you can't take them for a test run to see how they work. Being monoblocks I suspect the Bel Canto would have more get up and go......both are very nice.

Its rated at 500w/ch @ 8 ohm, so it damned well better have some more giddy up.

I'm saying, try something different and against the grain. The Bel Canto's look really nice, spec's are solid...what's the problem? Buy the damn things.

I think Bob Carver is a brilliant man.

Are those the Bel Cantos that use the class D ICE modules?

Then you can expect lots of power in a small package and it will be efficient and cool running.I use an ICE power module (250ASP) on my subwoofers and it works great.I have not heard them used in a full range application but it would be interesting to hear if there are any hi frequency nasties do to the ClassD design.I 've read several reviews of units using these modules and they have been mostly positive.

I think D-Amps have alot of promise and this is a classic example.

Agreed... I've never been a fan of carver, so I'm biased, but the ICE modules are the first class D that i've actually been impressed with. Wish you could get them generic and DIY up your own gear, but no dice as yet.

I was able to obtain mine through work ,but it would be nice if they were available for the DIY'er.All you need to provide is a chassis, input,AC and binding posts.Alternatively the UCD modules are available but they are inferior designs.

Pick 'em up and some JC-1's at the same time and let me know which ones you like. Those are the two sets of amps I'm waffling about.

Given that your speaks and amp are Carver designs, there may be some synergy there - but you never know 'till you try! I thought the Sunfire Signature 600x2 would be the bee's knees for my Legacys, but I never got them to sing together. In my rig I preferred a PS Audio HCA2 to the Sunfire, and the ICE power stuff is supposed to be way beyond that.

Those are some power hungry speakers. That 500w would really make them sing. If you are looking to sell the sunfire, let me know how much you want for it.
