hi i have a set of srs1.2tl's and i am running a pair of carver silver 9t monoblock amplifiers to them. i had tried to plug in the interconnect and it sounded like the world was coming to an end. so i am running these speakers without the interconnect cable. it seems like all the drivers and tweeters are working? does anyone know what part of the speaker i am not utilizing wothout the cable connected? i have received the plans from polk on how to build the AI-1 cable but i am just wondering?

You have to use the A1 interconnect with your setup. and the part you arent using is the difference in signal from right to left ( part of the SDA portion) but all drivers should be working.

You must use common ground amplifiers for the SDAs that seems to be the problem here. You need to strap the negative speaker terminals of the mono blocks together to make them common ground. I had to strap the negative speaker terminals of my Adcom 565 mono blocks together as well as strap the chasis together.

Do this instead of using a AI-1 cable. The AI-1 is a work around and degrades the sound.

I have uploaded a pdf which is a memo from Polk about your exact amp. You may want to check with Carver also to find out if it is okay to strap the chasis of the mono blocks together. This may be necessary to avoid a ground loop hum.

    1. You are NOT using half of the drivers, the SDA drivers in particular.
    2. Before strapping the negative terminals, you'd better be damn sure you can do that with those amps as that doesn't always work. The PDF addresses the Silver 7t's, not the 9t's.
    3. The factory AI-1 is NOT a work around and has never degraded the sound in my experiences.
    4. When building the AI-1, do not use the Stancor transformer as it does degrade the sound. Instead, use the Avel transformer.

HI- Where did you find that memo? I've not been able to find anything regarding the intelligence of doing something similar to my Carver M500. Not that big a deal, of course, just biding time 'til I pony up and buy an Avel.

I wasn't speaking from experience here about the AI-1 degrading the sound, I was going by threads that I have read when looking to make my 1.2 tls the best they can be, if F1nut says it doesn't degrade the sound from his experience then go by that.

Jess are you sure the AI-1 isn't a work around for SDAs to work with non-common ground amps?

I believe Darqueknight sent it to me. If it wasn't Darqueknight it was another forum member that took it from the Polk website.

Joe, I certainly don't consider it a work around. I call it a blessing. :)
