Just a heads up for anyone needing any computer stuff/games and low end audio/video. Should be seeing discounts soon as the stores are set to close pretty fast.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,255482,00.html

It was destined to happen. Everytime I went into these stores, the customer service was horrible.

All the stores here on the island are closing. The closest one will be in Manhattan for me..

Check here to see if stores near you are closing:

All but one (Holyoke) is closing in MA.

Good riddance. Bunch of overpriced junk you could get for a third of the price elsewhere. I've been to a CompUSA maybe twice in the past 5 years, and only because I was desperate / impatient.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

    exactly

I actually bought my laptop there only because they had a great price on it. I almost didn't buy the thing because the employees were nasty

What was bad was the half-assed attempt to do HT.
Why would a computer store try that?
They should have just improved their pc parts selection and support.
Now they don't do anything well.

Everything is on sale already. Laptops and computers are 5% so far, other misc. items are mostly 10% off, and all monster cables are 30% off. I was there yesterday, I'm waiting for a specific item to come down a little more, then I'll pick it up. I just hope it doesn't sell out before then.

Weren't they the ones that bought goodguys and closed their stores down? Seems like ironic justice to me. Bought my first polk speakers at goodguys. I was really sad to see them go. Can't say the same about compusa. If the discounts are the same as when goodguys closed, they'll be hit and miss. You'll have to keep checking every week for an additional percentage off until they finally get reasonable since their prices start off high.

Could be a chance to get a nice flat panel, though.

Was never impressed with the CompUSA in Manhattan. I remember waiting in line for quite some time to buy a "no-name brand" hard drive and then ending up returning it because it had bad sectors right out of the box.

I stopped by CompUSA today in Bellevue. Everything was pretty much just 10% off. Really nothing special. You can still find everything they have there at a better price on the internet. Well, unless you are dying for one of the CompUSA rebadged hard drives. Anyways, don't waste your time driving to one. They didn't even have what I needed.

I belive the "Egghead" stores were the inspiration for NewEgg.com.

I miss Egghead. I had a friend in high school whose father was a chemistry teacher at our school, but on weekends used to work at Egghead just to get discounts on techie stuff.

The one 5 minutes away from me is staying open. Not surprised as it has pretty decent traffic.

But overall, I'm not surprised, CompUSA never could figure out what it wanted to be. The big screen and stereo section was a waste of space. Plus, I hated the rebate on everything scam. It just shows how little margin there is in electronics. All the big boxes require their staff to sell accessories/extended warranties like crazy in order to make a profit.
