A couple 5b x-over questions

I pulled the x-over out of my 5b's last night just to have a look at the size, placement of parts, etc. Getting ready to order parts to replace the caps and resistor in each x-over. Has anyone done this with the classic Monitor series? I'm most concerned about having enough space to mountt the new 'over sized' parts.

As per other Monitor series the 34uF cap is hard to find so I'll have to use a 33uF and 1uF in series and I just want to make sure I have space and could use any secret pointers to keep things looking neat. I assume the Mills resistor is larger than the stock as well, please confirm if you can.

I'm also thinking of bypassing the tweeter fuse on the back. I'm intelligent enough not to clip my gear so that's not an issue. Does the fuse protect anything else like high DC offset, short circuits, amp meltdowns (if that should ever occur), etc.?

Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it.
