Has Your Audio Gear Ever Hurt You?

I was reading a thread over on the audiogon link about audio gear causing injurys, here is the link to that thread. http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?ymisc&1162745545&read&keyw&zzeagle I laughed my **** off reading some of these stories even though god knows I can relate to the various odd toe stubbings etc That i have personally encountered due to leaving some speaker/amp in the way at night and forgetting about it till i stumbled/tripped over the damn thing the following morning. If you have a funny and or painful story to tell please do so. LMAOOOO REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all

LOL...yeah, when I screwed up a connection and my amp blew and caught fire. This was when the gear was in a stand alone rack and I was doing the "contortionist" thing behind the rack, I was blowing air with my mouth as hard as I could, I think I even spit on it to put the fire out (I probably would have pissed on it too if my dick was closer) That's why I now have a fire extinguisher right next to my gear.

I like this one:
I sit in the dark, watching , waiting, never knowing if my gear will attack me. Just one simple thing can set them off. I am afraid. I haven't been able to listen to music for months now, in fear of retaliation.

Actually, several of them are LOL quality.
I also like this one: As long as I'm able to pick up a (sledge) hammer, the gear will live in fear & behave. I once beat a receiver to death & word has gotten around. Never had a problem, although the receiver I mentioned jumped off a nice wooden cabinet & tried to smash my toes. It was a conspiracy between the receiver & the cat, so I had to set an example.
OKAY, I like them all. I won't post any more FAVORITES.

I've been hurt twice by equipment, both audio and video.
Audio was trying to plug something (can't remember what) into my monster surge. It was an awkward angle and somehow my finger got between the blades of the plug, yet the plug still went in enough to shock me. My hand tingled then went numb for a few hours and it was hard to breath...but the gear was fine so its all good.
Video was moving my XBR960 onto my stand. Given the stand is roughly 3ft off the ground, and the tv is 196lbs and awkward as it is a 34in tube with crappy handles. It happened when I experimented with a 50in SXRD in my room, 50in 7ft away is just a little to big for me. Putting the 34in back up I had a hell of a time, and wound up falling with it and messed up my leg. Not sure what I did but it hurt to walk for a few days. I did end up getting the set up there by myself. The 34HS510 was so much easier to move, dam XBR.

It took 4 of us to get the big Hitachi Ultravision down the stairs and into the basement. I should have had my wife videotape the "scene".....cursing, yelling and pinched fingers as well as a few scrapes on the walls and and the t.v., we finally got it into the basement. Rest assured that when that t.v. craps out, it's leaving the basement in pieces.

Oh yeah, I can relate. Many years aso I got blasted by a old TV set that was unplugged for 5 years. I was removing various components and BLAM, I was knocked into the wall. Definitely not an experience I would like to live again. The screw driver I was using was also welded to the chassis. Good thing the amperage was low however, the voltage was still pretty high so I guess I know what a taser must feel like

This is a really funny thread! Thanks everyone!
As for the Hitachi Ultravision, I got my 57" RPTV Hitachi from Circuit City. Its a 200 lb monster. So the CC guys (two pretty big guys in a truck) show up and walk into my empty living room: "Where's it goin'?". I point up the narrow winding staircase. I think the guy wanted to kill me right then and there.
Due to the way the staircase handrails are, I swear remembering them lifting the TV to higher than waist level - I wanted to help, but I couldn't - the stairs were too narrow. The TV shimmied, wobbled and shook, but they got it upstairs without touching anything. I was highly impressed.
So what do I do when I am in the market for a wall-hung TV to replace this monster? I think I may have to remove the hand rails. Fortunately we will be going DOWN stairs!Do you hear that buzzing noise? -
