I currently have a Sony dvd/cd player model dvp-ns575p. I am considering on buying a denon dcm390 cd player. Will I get much better sound from the denon? Or should I just stick with the sony because isn't a cd player pretty much going to do the same thing as any other cd player? I have a hk3480 receiver by the way and rti8 mains.

A dedicated cd player is better than a combo player, at least in my experience. One is designed especially for music while the others main purpose is video. If you have 2 of the same cd's you can do a comparison which would let you hear the difference. Otherwise, just try to listen carefully to a cd that you know very well on both machines & you will also tell the difference.
