... part out a fully functioning speaker???
hadn't even considered it until I acquired an RT7 pair for $100 and saw what the drivers ($70 ea) and tweetwers ($50 pr) had gone for recently on ebay.

It is Ok to part out RT7's. It is not ok to part out a nice set of SDA's. You have the Polk Forum blessing. Good Luck.

I would make sure you sell them all at the same time. You don't want to get stuck with half a speaker.

Great speaker, I wouldn't part them out, I'd listen to them.

... time for the hard sell on speakers that are "too big". damn SAF issues! I was just amazed at the parts price on ebay... what gives, are the 7.5 woofers in demand by DIYers? Oh well, who cares, time to sit back, relax, and listen :D

it's only 1 speaker right. not a pair? place an add for free on Craigslist.org and see if someone needs the other one. since they are not mirrored.. maybe someone needs just one. what have you got to lose? Nothing. you may even make some money on the deal.

Oops! pair, schmair.. why destroy a working speaker(s) if they work just fine as is? oh well, they are his to do whatever he wants.

remember last year some dude in like CO parted out a working pair of SDA's?

He's been hinting at a small footprint HT. RT5, RT3, ceiling... and probably still thinking of modding them with tri-laminate tweeters.

Give them a listen first and if smaller + modding is what you would like, go for it. It's not like these are the last pair of RT7's on the planet.

edit: I was just starting to forget the Colorado chop. :(

Yes, I know, oarting out a pair of working speakers (especially decent onesno longer in production) does not seem sensible. My tendency is to keep them and build the HT around them as the mains (and sell the RT5 pair). This all started as a quest to get the best sounding 5.1 setup I could get for around $200 starting with RT5 mains and a sub I already own. I started looking at in-ceilings for the spousal approval only to realize that was the worst option for her tastes. I has bought a CS250S online for $65, but it was damaged in shipping (needs new tweeter)... which brought up the mod with trilam idea when I saw some RT7s on craigslist for $100 (using the RT7 as main and buying a tweeter elsewhere)... now i'm second guessing the size of the RT7s (SAF) and the cost of a CS350 and RT or LS f/x pair to match. the goal is still a decent surround setup for ~$200 total... i think the best case is ~$300 for the RT7/CS350/f/x setup if I sell the RT5s and repair/sell the CS250... that would work for me, but $400 probably would not... which brings up the selling the RT7s (and why on earth would I sell them for $100 if I could part them for $200). Either way, I'm currently looking to build around the RT7s and sell the RT5 and CS250S.
    thanks all.
