apologies for the double posting...

what would be a better sounding 5.1 setup for HT and Music listening (sub not a variable)???

option 1: RT5 fronts, CS250S center, RT3 surrounds (same tweeters on all speakers)

option 2: RT7 fronts, CS350LS center, RT5 surrounds (mixed tweeters)... i think the front is matched (trilams), but the RT5 is different

option 3: RT7 fronts, CS250S center with trilam 'upgrade', RT5 surrounds... not even sure the center would sound right with the trilam???

option 1 would be the cheapest for me... option 2 would be ~$200 more, and option 3 would be closer to 2 than 1 (if I could acquire an SL6501 trilam to swap out).

any thoughts welcome.

option 4: RT7 fronts, CS350LS center, RT f/x rear (trilams all around?)... most expensive option (unless I could sell my RT5s for more than buying the f/x).

I would search for a replacement tweeter for your (broken?) cs250 and give it a listen for awhile along with your RT5's. Then check into the possibility of modifying your cs250 with a tri-laminate tweeter to match RT7 and RT f/x (which you don't have yet).

Check with Helen in customer service if there is a sl5501 part substitution available. Sometimes they have similar replacement drivers with a shielding magnet and a different part number.

Here are numbers for the cs275 (similar to the cs250)

    (2) 4 1/2" dynamic balance mid-woofers
    (1) 1" dynamic balance tri-laminate dome tweeter
    overall response: 60Hz - 26 kHz
    -3 dB limits: 80 Hz - 25 kHz
    recommended power: 10 - 150 w/channel
    efficiency: 90 dB
    size: (H) 6" (W) 18" (D) 8"

Trey, what do you think of the RT8, RT10, RT12, (RT16) as floor standers for matching with the RT5 or (RT7) ?

    RT8 (1) 6 1/2" mid-woofer and a tweeter similar to the RT5
    RT10 (1) 7 1/2" mid-woofer and a tweeter similar to the RT5
    RT12 (2) 6 1/2" mid-woofers and tweeter similar to the RT5
    RT16 (2) 7 1/2" mid-woofers and tri-laminate tweeter similar to the RT7

Craigslist.org has these from time to time.
