rti 8 or monitor 70

hi all, i have had my monitor 50's for about 2 months now ..they are ok but i need a fuller sounding speaker.in the midbass and lower area...should i stick with the 70's and match the speakers i already have . or are the rti 8 that much better for music and movies..also will the rti 8 timbre match with the monitor series..i do about 65% movies 35% movies .thank for any help.

I think your issue might be that you're not feeding them enough power, the M70s have lots of drivers to push and I'm affraid your receiver isn't giving it what it needs. It could also be a xover issue. what do you have your system xover at ?

hi willow, i have my monitor 50's x-over at 60 hrtz.. the denon is 110 watts per. channel x 7...into 2 channels one of the reviews has it pushing about 140 watts.. so for the monitor 50's that should be plenty of power...i am hoping that the 6 1/2 drivers in the 70's or the rti 8 would give me a deeper sound.e.g. from 100 hrtz and below... of those 2 speakers for the same money which do u think is better the 70's or the rti 8 .thanks for ur help

don't get the rti8s unless you decide to upgrade all of your speaks.

If I were you, I would wait and save up money to make a worthy upgrade(better than m70s and rti8s)...

I've had monitor 70's before and found them to be too muddy in the lower end and they lacked detail and clarity. The Rti series is much more clear and detailed and are a big improvement over the monitor series in my opinion. If you want to upgrade from the monitor 50's to a better speaker then I would recommend moving into the Rti series. If your are going for 2-channel music w/out a sub then go with the Rti10 or 12's. If you use a good sub then the Rti8's will do the job. I found the 8's by themselves were too thin in the bass, but excellent in mids and highs. Also consider upgrading your sub if you want a better bass response.

If you decide to transition to the Rti series I'd start by selling both sets of the monitor 50's and purchase new/used Rti fronts, then center, then surrounds, then back surrounds. In that order. If money is an issue then you don't need to do it all at once.

Ok then bump up your xover to say 80, let the sub do some work on the lows at it should and was designed to , this will not only clear up your mids on your M70 but will give a bit more breathing room to your receiver.(you do have a sub...right?)
I have 2 200w monoblocks driving each of my 8s and x over @ 60.My sub is 150w. So even though I have more power to my mains, I give a little here take a little there to even it all out. I prefer the sound of mine xover @60 then @ 80. MHO

Willow, he doesn't have m70's, he has m50's and is asking if he should upgrade to m70's.

I have Monitor 60's and actually like them quite a bit. Off my fairly beefy AVR 635, they sound good. Off a solid power amp, they sound real good.

If you eventually get better speakers (RTis), or you will probably want a better receiver and/or a separate amp to power them. Do you have preouts? Wouldn't hurt to get a cheap stereo power amp to see if it opens up the m50s. Plus, use amps can generally be sold for what you bought them, so no harm trying it out.

Adding amps to my set-up was very fun and a great learning experience to boot. If you have some funds, try out an amp.

thanks to all for your input...i think i will wait a bit a save some money ..then see what is avalible..i think polk is releasing a new rti series ,i saw that somewere ,will wait for some feedback on those e.g. reviews buy customers and magazines.then make a choice..thanks again!

I love my 70's no complaints on them at all, they are pretty good middle ground for movies and audio... Good solid performance on Video, outstanding on audio...

Well I've heard Monitor 70's before but they were used on an Onkyo receiver which IMO says it all. Needlesstosay I didn't really get the full effect of the speaker, but I didn't think it sounded all that great. But then again I have the Monitor series so I already know I don't like them!
