purchased a Denon AVR-785S on e-bay this morning. I saw it 2 days ago and was watching it the starting bid was 99 bucks with a buy it now of 179.99 and it still had 3 days left. I could not wait. I figured even for the buy it now price I could not loose (even with the 40 dollar shipping charge). Yeah I could have waited until the last min. and put in a bid, but if I did I know I would have been out bid, or some one else would have bought it with the buy it now. I took about 4 hours of talking on and off with the wife for her to let me get it. I told her I would sell the technics, and my adcom pre to make up the cost (not working right now). I would offer the pre up here, but I could not sell it to a polkie at the price I want seeing as I got it from SNOW (a fellow polkie) for the price of shipping. I'd also offer the technics here, but who would want it. It's cheap, yeah it does dd, and dts, and has a few sound fields etc. etc.....
Man I cannot wait to get this thing, It's 7.1, I'll be using it in 5.1, or 6.1 has a few crossover setting (some thin like 40-120 hz in 20 hz steps vs. 100,150 or 200 hz settings the tech had) AND pre outs, which my tech did not have (yeah I can hook my 555 up the right way). Man I can not wait, I'm should just drive down to tx to get it, oh wait, I'm not working, no money to go oh well would hav been a nice family trip. I should see it by friday if ups doesn't get dumb. Yeah new receiver alright wwhhhhooooo hhooooo.
Ok sorry for the stupid post, I'm just excited.:D :D:D:D

Congrats. I too have been looking at replacing an ageing Technics receiver, it is encouraging to see others taking the same plunges.

Congrats dude on the find. You will be able to listen to movies in 7.1 now. As far as selling the adcom pre here why not? What you got it for has no bearing on its value, and as you said you need the money to replace what you spent on the new denon. you may be able to get more on ebay, but I think as long as you offer it for a fair price here no one will be offended. And you will avoid the ebay fees. REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

true true. I know on e-bay I could get $200-350 for it, and I just would not feel right about selling it here for that much.

I liked their old Class A stuff and always watch for it when we hit auctions and estate sales
